Yes, mj. His solo career was tremendous. Extremely talented. Here's a quote/review from Allmusic:

His wikipedia bio is fascinating......his pioneering musical career, selling his music format idea which became MTV, producing the first grammy award winning music-video and pioneering the video medium with his Pacific Arts media company, which also produced such films as PBS's "The Civil War"....
a really talented & smart guy....still going strong as a leader/activist...he wasn't just a Monkey!

I did run in to some recent photo's of Davy some time ago. Speaking of the Monkees.
He's also still busy doing shows I l believe.
