My favorite silent film, The Big Parade, has several thousand extras in it.
All Quiet on the Western Front has quite a few extras also.

"On The Waterfront" is a great one! It must have one of the greatest scenes ever..

"Ivan The Terrible" (I & II) by Sergei Eisenstein is one of my favorite silent films.

Depends how you define 'classic'. Sure its a cult hit, but can a film regarded to be the worst movie in history really be grouped together with legit good films of this era?

I think, if you're going to go with "B" sci-fi movies that are in the: "aliens trying to save the world by getting our attention" genre.....I'd have to go with "The Day The Earth Stood Still".

I remember watching this film when I was a teenager...
It was in the portuguese public television although in RTP2 (somehow for the minorities as they still say in Portugal).
The promotional trailer was very teasing and... off course I was not expecting a great story but only a raw, carnal movie.

After all it was indeed a great (and extreme) love story. A great movie. And yes, Monique van de Ven was gorgeous!

I believe both in Spain and Portugal the title given to the film is Turkish delights. In Brazil is something like Insane passion.

It's just Rutger and Monique had such a great chemistry in this movie.
It shows. I think it's beautiful. It should have won the Oscar. It was nominated for best International movie back then.
But I think it was a bit to much to handle to let it win.

Bizarre sci-fi........"Blade Runner" has to be a classic....."Sin City" too new?

Sci-fi/horror parody...."Young Frankenstein", & a more recent "classic", for me, is "The Fifth Element" (is there such a thing as instant classic, except in a review?)......too new also?

Speaking of Luc Besson, another movie of his wayyy better than The Fifth Element (which is pretty good), The Professional.
Another movie that's a bit of a take-off on that film, The Boondock Saints is also really good.

No, fortunally all movies in Portugal have subtitles.

The same doesn't happen in Brazil and Spain, for instance. I cannot forget the experience of listening Gregory Peck in "castellano": "Mira hombre..."

I agree about keeping it real (native languages to their respective films).......I love subtitles. A good example would be The Seven
Samurai" when I saw it with English dubbed in! Simply awful!!! How can one
appreciate a fine performance of say a Brando or Newman... or Gregory Peck, no less, if it's not their own voice showing their full emotion & effect!

And, shame on me! How could I forget to talk about Ennio Morricone's soundtrack to this movie. Can we really dissociate it from the movie?

Soundtracks are really important and in this case the two components merge in just one masterpiece. Amazing!
