The Doors promo photos

Post by universalmind69 »

I was wondering if anyone here could fill me in on the history of The Doors` promo photos?...if there were a multitude of images being used, or did they just use the most commonly known ones, when were they released, any of them rarer than others....?
Were the earliest promo shots from Venice Beach(lots of color and b/w`s) also given out as promo photos , or were they for use in some other context..?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

Photo items

When the Doors had a photo session, there were several photos taken. Generally, however, after the initial set of promo photos, they were taken for a specific purpose.

A magazine spread, album cover or the like.

I cannot telly ou the extent or number of total sessions they had. I know that Jim had photo sessions. one of which was in New York.

I was not glamerous or beautiful enough to be included so I cannot tell you the exact location or number of photo session they had. My best guess is, as a group, about 10, more or less.

I hope that some of the collectors can help you with this.

#5 is from a 1966 Gene Trindl shoot
#9 could be Brodsky April 1967
#12 is Brodsky mid-late September, 1967
#16 could be anywhere from sept-oct 1967, it`s been labeled as backstage at the Whisky but I don`t know if that is true or not
#18 is from what`s said to have been an alternative WFTS shoot, Paul Ferrara
#24 is Richard Avedon, probably April, 1968
#25 is Guy Webster, 1968
#27-28 TOTP before/after perfomance?

Here's my suggestion, use less //// next time.

Are you writing a book? Why is the EXACT date so important? I think we're all doing our best to give the approx time frame. I highly doubt you will get the exact date for many of those unless the photog kept some type of log, which is unlikely. And with all do respect to the photographers, sometimes their memory isn't the best anymore. The same goes for the band members and management. Most of the time, the hardcore fans know more than they all do. Look how many errors there are on pretty much every release. Or how many photos are mislabeled in nearly every book.

nah, no one book. know about date of pics is most important for me

i understand very well as in some book or else there are many photos mislabeled and i known very well like frank or paul are a very very bad memory

when i see for first one a pics or reseen in my collection i always ask me when could be taken?

try to tell me if you known about date or if one session could be taken before or then else session

These clusterfuck posts give me a headache. What exactly do you want to know or find out? It might be easier to post ONE photo, then your question.

i try to make a thedoors promo photo history, i must finish yet, a few photo and date are yet not including i would to make a right chronological order
then, i can ask (as you write) posting one photo w/ question in a different thread so we can add then on original work on this thread

i never see a work about the doors promo photo and i think we can put on RIM site

Dude, there's about 3000 promo photos you haven't seen. I don't think we will be able to label the exact date for every one. The best we can do is get the approx. month and year.

3000 different photo session or 3000 photo(session) in total?
i understand that for many of them we can't label exact month
but we can do approx (month) or just make a RIGHT chronological order
