Texas Radio and The Big Beat

We're lucky to have former Doors road manager Vince Treanor here to answer fan questions and share some of his memories. Ask Vince about anything related to the equipment The Doors used, stage set-ups, specific concerts, the band after Jim's death, and working on the Oliver Stone movie.

Wasn't most of the Doors music played on AM mono radio back then? Any thoughts on what that was like compared to getting the album and then hearing it in stereo? They didn't play music on FM back then did they? Thanks.

When the 1967 period of radio was in vogue there was only mono. Stereo tried to give the feeling of the location, relative to left and right of center, of instruments, singers or whatever. The quality of the music was not improved greatly with FM stereo. That had to wait for greater broadcast bandwidth to get the higher frequencies and lowest frequencies. Midrange was always available.

Of course, the ultimate was to hear the music live.
