Leon Barnard Interview

We're lucky to have former Doors road manager Vince Treanor here to answer fan questions and share some of his memories. Ask Vince about anything related to the equipment The Doors used, stage set-ups, specific concerts, the band after Jim's death, and working on the Oliver Stone movie.

Interview

Post by vince »

One always says what people want to hear in cases like this. It is my refusal to cow-tow to that kind of interview that has probably kept me from having many of them.

A person who knows another person can read into their actions and spoken word, about anything one would want.

I did not see any special relationship between LEon and Jim. I know that Leon was alone most of the time during 1968 and 1969. Leon did spend some time with Jim before his departure to France and Jim did pay for Leon and another person to travel to France. I suppose one might conclude that there was some sort of associative interest on the part of Jim.

Leon is a kind of "Different" guy. I think he is a bit of a loner and does yearn for companionship. He did not associate with Jim as a groupie would. He is not capable of that kind of deception.

All in all I should say that Leon spoke his mind partially in reality and partly in an inner desire to satisfy the curious. That is not so bad.

Leon is n0ot a bad guy and he really means well. He can be a fun guy to be with.Jim probably liked the sort of free spirit that pervades Leon's personality. Leon is certainly different, very much so, than most of the people who chased after Jim for the notariety - and fun at Jim's expense. I think Jim liked Leon for the fact that he asked for, nor expected, anything from Jim. Jim could relate to Leon without having to pay for it. Perhaps Leon was a refreshing breath of Spring in Jim's life. Unassuming, undemanding, funny.... Why not
