John Einarson - FOREVER CHANGES the book...
More or less the first book review.Although in my opinion, this is hardly a book review cause it doesn't tell much.

There are a number of book signings listed now-- in & around London
and one in Liverpool...
go to www.jawbonepress.com for times and locations...if you are lucky
enough to be there.
Later we should start to see US signings, but probably only in LA....the home
of LOVE.
John will sign mine sometime after I get it...he promised!

Got mine via post today.....BEAUTIFUL.
"IT" is in my hands right now! It is probably the most beautifully
bound paperback I've seen---heavy stock, a semi gloss matte finish,
with inside flaps just like a dust cover...and John could not have chosen
a better, more dramatic, monochromatic cover photo...it is perfect.
It is thick thank you! 328 pages PLUS another five pages for the index.
Tons of pics...only $13.59 at Amazon...do it now!
Are we happy?!!!
I'm diving in!
No smilie is big enough!!

Ahhh. but even after everyone gets theirs, I can read his thanks to me (lemonade kid) in thethefreed wrote:I ordered my copy yesterday. It said the book would be released at the end of this month.
Anyway they'll send me an email when it's on my way.Look forward to it.
Your 15 minutes of fame has started, Scott!
dedications and thank you's...all I did was call off the dogs at Torben's, if you remember, Ed.
(a pathetic attempt at attention on my part, but I've never
had a "thanks" in a book before...and especially one about our favorite, Ed--
but your had your day in Love Story...CHEERS!)
Since then, though, John has become a good friend.
I ordered mine in Feb, bally...you should have yours!! It IS beautiful!
ED, would you please post a BIG pic of the book cover for all to see
here...it is a brilliant cover!)

No...John would go broke if he sent books to every one heBallroomDays67 wrote:You ordered it from Amazon? I assumed that the author had sent you a copy. I wonder why they haven't shipped mine yet.
wished to thank for their support!
I got a notice last week that I needed to "renew" my order or they would
cancel by mid-June if they hadn't been able to send it out. There must
be some kind of Legal time limit. Maybe my renewal caused me to get
bumped up.
Did you get a renewal notice in your email? Unfortunately, we all
sometimes fall through the cracks! I hope your order didn't at Amazon....

I count twenty separateBallroomDays67 wrote:Nice! I called Amazon, and should be receiving the book this Friday. I'm really looking forward to it.
How many pages mention Jim or The Doors?
pages/entries for either the DOORS or Jim in the index.
Good to hear your book is on the way, bally!! Yours should be coming soon, Ed!
Thanks, Ed! Isn't it a beautiful book jacket. You will love the "feel" when
you have it in your hands. For me it is the center of my Love Collection,
along with "Love Story", in that it is the full story of love--a complete
reference and touch-stone to Arthur & Love.
It seems to have so much, anyone interested in LA at the height of the golden age
will be interested in this. Stories of the Strip, the Canyon, the DOORS,
Elektra, all the clubs (most in common with the DOORS), the hang-outs-
like Canters (anyone been there?), the colors and music of the day.....
Love embodied it all.

I’ve almost finished the book, and really enjoyed it. It’s definitely a worthy companion to the Michael Stuart-Ware book, especially in covering the period before Michael joined. I wasn’t aware that Love played such a crucial role in the history of the Whisky. Interesting stuff. Another surprising thing is that Bryan had auditioned for The Monkees prior to joining Love! The author does a great job of incorporating Arthur’s excellent interview into the text. Surprisingly, Johnny disputes the great story that Arthur told in the “Love Story” doc about his treks to Capitol Records. A favorite part of the book is when Arthur selects various lines from songs on "Forever Changes”, and explains the meaning and motivation behind each of them. Appropriately, the book goes into a lot of detail about the “Forever Changes” sessions and album.
As far as Doors-related stuff, they unfortunately take a hit right off the bat, just a few pages into the introduction. One thing I don’t get is how the author could feel that the Doors are “perhaps more generally associated” with Bito Lito's than is Love. The Doors only played there a few times, and there isn’t much mention of those shows. On the other hand, Bito Lito’s is frequently mentioned as being an important venue for Love. As the author points out, it’s where Jac Holzman first saw the band prior to signing them to Elektra. For The Doors, that was of course The Whisky. In any case, there’s a lot about Love’s time at Bito Lito’s and the Brave New World. Arthur relates the “pool story” from his point of view, and recounts another incident involving Jim and Bryan MacLean. Based on what Arthur says, it sounds as though Bryan was a good person and a true friend to Jim. Arthur also provides a bit of detail regarding his relationship with Pam.

It's only available in a very sturdyBuda wrote:Not entirely because of the few Doors related pages but I think I gotta get this book, thus in hardcover.
paperback with a matte finish and with inner flaps like a dust cover for hardbound books.
It is very heavy too, as the page paper is very heavy weight...maybe 32lb,
so it win't tear easily when you flip through it.
The letter to Arthur from Bryan that is in the front photos--
read it if you haven't already.....this is my post from Torben's--
The letter from Bryan to Arthur in Jan of 1998 is so touching and
optimistic....it is in the beginning photos from the Story Of Love
book by John Einarson.
When Bryan tells Arthur that he still believes in him and wants to know
if Arthur would be interested in participating in an oral history of Love.
He prophetically tells Arthur "the best is yet to come". Bryan's
bio would have been so enjoyable...he was the wild uninhibited one...
and I would have loved to read that one!
I remember hearing about Bryan's passing on the following Christmas.
A sad day for us all here.
I wonder how much of that letter Arthur took to heart and if it helped
him to return to Forever Changes...or at least be more open to the
idea...if it softened his views of the early days of Love....the
best days of his musical career.
Bryan was obviously still reaching out to Arthur after all the bad times....
I think people don't understand the love they (Bryan and others) had for the man
in spite of his (at times) nastiness..Arthur was Love.
Good for you all, again, in the UK for giving Arthur the Love he
deserved after all those years!!

My favorite chapter is "You Set The Scene" about the trials and tribulations leading up to and during the recording of Forever Changes....for me, possibly the best album ever conceived and recorded....start to finish.
The chapter covers each track, Arthur's (or Bryan's) thoughts or feelings about the results, and each band member's reaction to the final mix of every track. A brilliant, honest (sometimes painfully), and thorough, myth-busting account.
Wouldn't we love to have Einarson write such a complete and full account of the DOORS days in-studio and away.
A perfect book that just keeps getting five star reviews and increases every day to legendary must-have status.....already touted as one of the best rock bios ever written, and the top summer read by many.
