Pearls Before Swine.....BALAKLAVA

Maybe one of the strangest, most beautiful psychedelic albums to come
out of the 60's.

TOM RAPP was really all the band with backup guys that changed over
the bands life. He was a draft dodger, anti-war, folk rocker that in his youth
beat out Bob Zimmerman (Dylan) in a Minnesota talent show.

They both bloomed...in different directions but both are equally brilliant.

This may be one of the most beautiful psychedelic war protest, Zen, love
songs to ever be recorded in the 60's. With it's seagulls crying, ocean waves
crashing, bells tinkling and piano, organ and strings, it is uniquely brilliant.

SOME OF THE BEST PSYCH EVER RECORDED.....FROM PHILLY

Some of the best psych you'll ever hear....sounding very Spirit like
on the vocals today....anyone else hearing Randy here...a la Nature's Way? (the title track "Puzzle" has that sound that infects and hypnotizes)

The instrumental stuff is as good as Country Joe's "Section 43".

Yes I am back and am in the process of getting caught up on things, crazy at work
I have never been gone 3 wks in a row before.
I plan on getting some pics to post, but right now I have a billion things to do, nephew getting married, a niece getting married, father's day coming up ect, but I will eventually have some pics sent to Ed to post for me.
Loved Spain and the Cote de Azure, Paris has a million things to see, rained most of the time we were there and so crowded, but got some nice memories.

Pretty much back to normal though my
Achilles ' Heel gets sore often if I get too confident....I bike and walk though jogging can still be a bit sore. It's been since last Sept 15th that i injured it
Doc said a year, but I didn't believe it! Till now...

This great final album in a trio of amazing albums by Buffalo Springfield
was released in July 1968. I listened to this one all summer long back then.
Even with just Steve and Richie completing most of the album themselves,
it is one of my all time favorites. Give me a better by a whole band...

The opening track....I knew we had a good one for the summer daze!
Broke my heart when I figured out the cover, but we'll always have the
Summer of '68...at least in most of your fantasies, you kids!!

What ARE YOUR FAVORITES OFF THIS ONE & the earlier two?...LET'S PLAY SOME HERE!

Buffalo Springfield was my summertime band in 66-67-68 and forever!!

Sounds as good as ever & watching the old gold and purple Atco label spinning
round and round...another perfect example of why NOT to sell your
record collection in favor of CDs!!!

and so... FOUR DAYS GONE... is such a beautiful protest song...a real favorite for us.

Today it's FEVER TREE....one of my favortie all time psych bands!

The guitar player, Michael {Knust] RIP, developed their signature sound-- ability to sustain one of the longest fuzz tone notes on a guitar. Hendrix wanted the secret, as Michael once related. The manager [or someone involved with Hendrix]
said Jimi would trade the secrets of his sound if Michael would reveal his secrets.
Michael never did. He knew Hendrix would never reveal his secret of how he actually opened his fender and altered the electronic guts of his guitars (no one really knows what he did to this day).

Michael said 60's guitarist were constantly experimenting with various guitars, replacing pickups, and using various amp combinations to get the sound they wanted. And trying to find each others secrets. Spy vs. Spy......

Fever Tree "where Do You Go"

Randy Holden of Sons of Adam/Blue Cheer, had a custom-made, one-of-kind foot pedal volume fuzz box controller that gave him deafening volume with a touch of his foot. During one show it disappeared. He was heart broken. Finally he discovered that a stage hand had tossed it under the stage in order to retrieve it later. It was like corporate spy-games back then...all was fair as long as you weren't caught.

Randy said that he always dreamed of being able to move up and down his guitar neck with even faster lightning speed with a guitar neck as smooth as glass.....a few years ago, his wife gave him a custom-made guitar with an actual GLASS neck....cool.

Although Colin has a solid following and has kept active (& enjoyed some success in the early 70's with a couple singles) throughout the years, he is more a cult artist than mainstream...but why in the hell am I complaining....?

We never care for mainstream here anyway!! One of the most haunting and smooth voices ever!!

Once again I present an artist about whom I know very little. I wish I has the time and resources to research some of the albums I post here but I don't so I'm limited to what I can pull from a couple reference books & off the net. I can however recommend this record by Rabbit Mackay & his Somis Rhythm Band to fans of 60's psych-folk-rock-blues obscurities. It was released on the Uni label in 1968. The music is pretty varied with a few rockers and a couple tracks that feature harpsichord. Candy is a blues-stomp that veers into garage rock, while Hard Time Woman sounds more like a Holy Modal Rounders blues outing. Big Sur & John's Lament are gentle psych-folk numbers. Baby Jennifer is in the angry folk singer gets back at old girlfriend genre. West Grogan Dormitory Blues is a more rockin' but similarly-themed number with plenty of snottiness in the vocals. Cool stuff overall. Rabbit is apparently alive and hopefully well and living in California. He was still performing circa 2005, when he had a track on the La Conchita Remember... compilation put together to raise money for mudslide victims.

An early 70's musician and singer..great music...very well known in L.A. in his day, but one of those talents who for some reason never got the recognition or success they deserved!

Jimmie Spheeris November 5, 1949 – July 4, 1984) was an American singer-songwriter who released four albums in the 1970s on the Columbia Records and Epic Records labels. He was of Greek descent. He was brother of film director and producer Penelope Spheeris, and cousin of musician Chris Spheeris and film director Costa Gavras....

...Spheeris died at the age of 34 in Santa Monica, California, when his motorcycle collided with a van at 2 a.m. on the morning of July 4, 1984. The driver of the van, Bruce Burnside, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and felony vehicular manslaughter.[5]

Just hours before his death, Spheeris finished the self-titled album, Spheeris. This final album, meant to be his comeback, was not publicly released for 16 years.

The Music Machine (1965–1969) was an American garage rock and psychedelic (sometimes referred to as garage punk) band from the late 1960s, headed by singer-songwriter Sean Bonniwell and based in Los Angeles. The band sound was often defined by fuzzy guitars and a Farfisa organ. Their original look consisted of all-black clothing, (dyed) black moptop hairstyles and a single black glove.
