New at LOVE

Never gave them a chance. Where to start? A remastered album? An older version of a cd?

I would start with the "Forever Changes: Collector's Edition" 2-CD set, but the debut album and "Da Capo" are also essential. The latter two are each available on a CD containing both the mono and stereo mixes. I would also recommend "Ifyoubelievein", which is a CD of Bryan Maclean's demos and solo material, and the "Love Story" documentary DVD. The two essential books are "Behind the Scenes: On the Pegasus Carousel" (2nd Edition) by Michael Stuart-Ware and "Forever Changes: Arthur Lee and the Book of Love" by John Einarson.

That's one heck of a collection right there.

Anything by Arthur is worth hearing even after the original Love broke up in 1968. This is later works despite the cover showing the original Love lineup.

Since it has not been officially released, you can legally download Black Beauty at the site you shared. Give it a try. I have it and really....most bands would kill to be as good as Arthur Lee even at his most mediocre -- for Arthur. It is good as a historical document but NOT a good indicator of the heights to which Arthur would rise on Forever Changes! If you get nothing else--start with Forever Changes...NOW!

.Much on Black Beauty is really early stuff that Arthur was involved in, sometimes only as producer....such as My Diary which he enlisted a very young and unknown Jimi Hendrix for to play guitar. Arthur was the producer and songwriter on it. Try it....but don't take it as LOVE!!!
