Roughie's New Zealand tragedy-earthquake

Post by jamestkirk »

I hope you and yours are ok, Roughie.
Are you near the quake's center?

It's far away but I hope that no one from Kerrin's family lives there and suffered with this tragedy.

Hi all,

I am well thanks for asking. I live at the other end of the country, however my daughter lives there. She is ok, and unhurt. All of her mothers side of the family are ok as well.

I haven't been on as my computer has died and I am on my mothers laptop at the moment.

Thanks again.

Thanks again.

At the moment there are 75 confirmed dead and that is expected to rise. There are about 300 people missing.

Still plenty of aftershocks.

Hope is fading for those trapped.

The death toll is expected to rise dramatically.

There are many rescue teams from around the world working to find survivors. They are risking their lives to save people they don't know and are nothing short of heroes!

No I didn't. I live in the northern part of the North Island and Christchurch, which is where the earthquake happened is about half way down the South Island. A friend of mine in Wellington (which gets quakes often, but not to this scale obiviously) felt it there. Wellington is right at the bottom of the North Island.

I saw some strong images on TV. The next days will be extremely difficult. I can't imagine what it feels like to live on such conditions.
Terrible.

I know the city very well, and I still can't really imagine properly what has happened. Even though a lot of the buildings I see on the news I know.

103 dead now.

Lots of stories coming out. I heard on the radio about a portuguese couple with 4 children living there. They all survived but experienced some dramatic hours. Dad was out of town. Mom was with one of their children, the others were at school. After Earthquake she was scared to death and could only react after half an hour. She could only reach their other 3 children after 6 hours. Long hours.

Thanks.

Yes plenty of amazing stories and I am sure we'll hear more as the days and weeks continue.

The aftershocks are slowing down, which must be a huge relief.
