Sinatra Studio Outtakes

I've been on a Sinatra kick lately and found out that there's a lot of unreleased studio material circulating. Does anyone here collect it or have a lead on where I can find some? I know there's an entire bootleg series called "Inside" for various albums (i.e. Inside Brass, Inside September, Inside Great Songs, etc). I've managed to find a few of them as downloads, but most are mp3 quality. Since the stuff needs a little work, I'd prefer to obtain lossless copies. Any help would be great. Great choice, Len. I have several vinyl classics--with Count Basie at the Sands, I think, live double Lp is a favorite.

Sinatra at The Sands is oop, so get it anyway you can!! This Original Master Recording conversion has the technical log, & Dynamic Range Analysis.

Avaxhome has an unusually large Sinatra download collection and Avaxhome usually has very high quality d/ls, even though mostly mp3's...much is from really high quality conversions from pristine vinyl, oop releases & many times there is a choice as to how high quality you want...converted by "pro's" often.

Thanks for the heads up, Scott. I already have the Sands album. It was actually one of the first I can remember listening to. I've since gotten all the Columbia, Capitol and Reprise albums. So you can see why I'm in need of outtake material. I'm all out of official releases!

You really have everything! I have a friend who while in college took a music appreciation course taught by a jazz musician. Sinatra was high on the list of his favorites and they went into his work in depth, as "Sinatra: the jazz artist".

Sinatra's phrasing is genius. I think it's on the back of my early Reprise vinyl, "What's Life", where it talks of how Sinatra would read aloud the lyrics of a song first...like a poem, in order to get the phrasing just the way he felt it would work best when sung. (Those early Reprise labels were very cool with Sinatra's portrait used instead of the "steamboat"...of course it WAS his label at first!)

He was the consumate artist and those who have delved deeply, such as yourself, Len, know that Frank was no simple crooner-- he was a true artistic genius and uniquely creative interpreter of song.

I'll keep my eye open for boots or unreleased session work, but you likely have delved into what is out there on the net as much as I could have.

Now I'll have to start the search too.

Here's a great studio session of Frank recording "Come Fly With Me" exactly 46 years ago today on October 11, 1965: http://www.sendspace.com/file/uwca6x

(I actually had no idea the recording date was today until I just looked it up. That's a little spooky, heh.)

The tape starts about halfway through a rehearsal performance. Then they do Takes 1-5 with some false starts. Take 6 was missing from the tape because I believe it's the master take used on the album (or at least a good portion of it was used on the final master) so I spliced the album version in to get a sense of how the complete session tape sounds. Frank originally used a different ending, but he didn't like it, so he asked to re-record it which is the version used on the final album. So this 11-minute track is a bit of a reconstruction on my part to get a better idea of what a complete Sinatra session was like back in the '60s.

Haven't tried them but looks interesting...

I listened to The 1962 Sintra Inside Basie sessions, and it is pretty cool.

You need VLC player to listen and I am not sure how to get these onto CD audio?

If you're not already aware of this forum, it's a great resource for bootlegs, it's got a lossy and a lossless forum. I've found a few Sinatra and Rat Pack shows, though those were in the lossy forum. A lot of the posts also have links to various bootleg blogs, pretty much all genres are covered if you look around enough. I've found everything from Woody Guthrie and Ledbelly to Cheech And Chong and Don Rickles to John Coltrane and Charlie Parker along with plenty of Rock and Country, both modern and classic.

knowing how many serious music fans are members here, this very well may be a forum most people are already familiar with, apologizes in advance if that's the case.

Thanks. I do know about Guitars101. I've been able to get some Sinatra outtake material there in mp3 format. But many of the lossless downloads were posted over a year ago and they're no longer active. I've registered as a member there to request some reuploads, but my posts don't seem to get approved by the mods so I've stopped trying. There was a user on there named KTOPS who shared a lot of Sinatra material last year. Sadly, it doesn't look like he posts there anymore. It'd be nice to get in touch with him and see if he could either repost some of the stuff he shared or fill me in on what else is out there.
