Vince, were you shocked by Jim's death?
When you heard of Jim dying, was it a surprise? Or was it an inevitable destination on the road he was travelling down? Or was it both? I would be interested(and I'm sure others would to) on what your experience was as someone that knew him. His death has become so much a part of the myth of Jim Morrison, I'm interested in what the experience was for those who were onto interested in the myth, but in the person. Thanks a lot for reading my question.

Jim's Death
We heard about Jim's demise on the morning that Bill got underway to Paris. We were all shocked, perhaps disbelieving.
On the other hand, Jim was on the path to destruction. You can only drink so much for so long and the effects take their toll.
As with most really tragic or overwhelming incidents that people experince, the news comes and you absorb it and there is either no effect or it sort of drifts by.
Then, when you are alone - or later or after you think more about what you have seen or heard, the emotional impact begins to set in.
That is the way it was. We sort of went through the day but as the day progressed we sort of gravitated to the upstairs office to hear more news and wonder if what we heard was really true.
The accurate answer did not come for many more hours but it did not
change the original message.
Wonder, why, how, all the suspicious circumstances just kept going through the mind like wheels that never stopped turning.
I knew about the call that Jim had made suggesting a return to LA and renewed activity. I could only wonder why this thing had happened. Have you ever had something happen and there was absolutely nothing
you could do about it. The empty, helpless feeling that you get. Was the sadness replaced by anger because you knew that it was a needless, useless waste of life. It did not matter what you thought about Jim and his good or bad side, his conversations or his antics. He was human, he was someone you knew, someone you talked to, guided on stage, had long and short debates and even a sort of banker on occasion. And suddenly, he was not going to wander into the office with his sly smile and "Hi, Vince, How's it going?" any more or , "What do you think about..." No more worry about what was going to happen on stage, or if it was going to happen on stage.
No more nothing. The music was indeed over. What can you do? What is next? Where is Jim? You think, and think and wonder. Still the emptyness and no answers.
Bill returns, no change in status. the answer is about as final as you can get.
Like all bad news, the impact wears off and life must go on. The finality of it all has been accepted and you still wonder why and how. there are no answers and under the circumstances, there never will be, not then, not ever.
And there is little more to say. Reactions to things like this are personal and it is really hard to relate. there was a death. It was not in the Family, but it was in the family. What can you say.
