Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers is the debut solo album of Gene Clark, released in February 1967 on Columbia Records, catalogue CS 9418. It was his first effort after his departure from folk-rock group the Byrds in 1966. Though the album was a critical success and it established Clark as a talented singer-songwriter, it appeared very close to the scheduled release date for the Byrds' album Younger Than Yesterday in both the United States and the United Kingdom, hampering its possibilities for commercial success.

The musicians on the album include: former bandmates Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke; Wrecking Crew session musicians Glen Campbell, Jerry Cole, and Leon Russell; future Byrd Clarence White; and Clark's future collaborator Doug Dillard. The folk/country vocal duo the Gosdin Brothers added backing vocals, and subsequently received co-billing.
Gene Clark with the Gosdin Brothers was first reissued in the US in the early 1970s, omitting "Elevator Operator" [thought of as "dated"....it is NOT] and with re-recorded backing tracks designed to "soften" the sound, under the title Early LA Sessions. [Soften the sounds...really? A silly idea as the original is as perfect as an album can be!]
A reissue for compact disc on the Columbia/Legacy imprint in 1991 was titled Echoes, and also (partially) remixed, though closer to the sound of the original album - the most significant change was the removal of vocal double-tracking. Echoes altered the song running order, added "The French Girl" by Ian and Sylvia, "Only Colombe," a demo outtake of "So You Say You Lost Your Baby," and several Clark-penned songs from early Byrds recordings.
Both the 1997 reissue on Edsel Records and the 2007 reissue on Sundazed Records (produced by Bob Irwin) restored the original album mix and track order, with the latter including a number of alternate takes from the album sessions. -wiki
