Thank you Monique.

Great song from a great band.

Dig in to some more Shocking Blue Alex.
They made so much more great music then just Venus.
Very true Monique.

I don't own any of Shocking Blues' studio albums, but I do have a compilation album of theirs that I like very much.

Well fan is a big word. I like his music though. Got a lot of respect for Marley. Songs of freedom boxset is really good? Might look in to it. Thank you for the tip Nicole.

Across The Universe from the MONO Box...WILDLY different...a totally different recording with some Apple scruffs singing background harmonies!
And sound of the geese taking off from a "lake" is really interesting..at the beginning and end of the song.

Strangely cool. Was that an official release or a boot, DM?
You should hear the White Album, it is really different and very nice in mono.

I've never seen it again, i'm sure it was a bootleg, I wore it out, i remember trying to replace all the songs that were on there and Across The Universe didn't have the flock of birds when I heard it elsewhere..

I've never heard the flock of birds or songbirds singing intro, and the radically different guitar work, either. And john's voice is even more psychedelic thru that leslie amp. It lacks in NO way....don't even notice it is in mono, it is so full and rich.

I just read my Mono Box liner notes-- that odd mix of "Across The Universe" was originally intended for a World Wildlife fund raiser EP in the UK...all proceeds to the fund. Hence the "wildlife" effects at the beginning and end of the track...wondered about that.
Nice 45's your mum has, DM! I guess my rarest Beatle LP/artifact would be a REAL pressing of the VeeJay "Introducing The Beatles" ( the world's most counterfeited album...millions! ). Authenticated. But alas, only a second pressing-brackets logo so it's only worth $100-200!

Probably my favorite Neil song! Neil's first four LPs are the best for sentimental reasons but I love "On The Beach"..."Vampire Blues". So many great albums! And now all those great live releases from the 60's and early 70's.
A MUST HAVE is "Sugar Mountain-Live at Canterbury House-1968" Archive Series. It is wonderful and as close to seeing Neil just after leaving Buffalo Springfield and before his first album was released! ANd the song intro raps are very personal and often humorous.
My Favorite Neil Young songs-
The Loner
The Old Laughing Lady
Cinnamon Girl
Down By The River
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Cowgirl In The Sand
After The Gold Rush
Needle and The Damage Done
Southern Man
Alabama
Helpless
Journey Through The Past
Ohio
"Comes A Time" LP is a melodic masterpiece.

Cool, my mum has a Rolling Stones vinyl LP which I saw sell for $250.
Right now i'm listening to Led Zeppelin, Charlotte 1972, very crisp audience recording 9/10

The first person I though of when I posted this was you
TY for the reccomendation. Now that I have started paying more attention, they actually play Neil Young quite a bit on my classic vinyl XM station-- on the way to work they played Old Man-- which I like very much as well.
I will check out the album you mentioned-- any others you would request? I would like to check out more of his stuff.

YES, His first four-
Neil Young Self-titled
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (with Down By the River)
After The Gold Rush
Harvest (with Old Man)
All four have just been reissued with newly remastered sound....
fantastic and can be had at Amazon for a song!!
Plus "Comes A Times" (mellower country rock), "On The Beach" ,
and the Archives release: Neil Young "Sugar Mountain: At Canterbury House-1968"...amazingly well recorded--we should be so lucky to get
this kind of historic recording of the 60's DOORS--Neil had a sense
of history even then and knew to save it for generations...
1.2 hours of great music!

Recommended for one and all!!

Good deal JTK-- Thanks!
I will check them out soon enough.
I am heading to Ocean Beach in San Diego this weekend and I am sure I can snag some there at one of their many record stores.
EDIT: After my lunch break I get in my car and Neil Young- Heart of gold starts playing.....pretty neat

Everytime I hear this song it reminds me of a certain child I knew and felt sad for.
