wha happened wrote:Thanks man. I need to get new batteries and take more. I've only seen the promo poster with text advertising concerts. One was a Whisky show and I don't recall the other. They must have made a poster for the Strange Days album also, but I've only seen the one used to promote the Philly '68 show.
Thanks. Those posters probably weren't used solely to promote the albums, so it's likely that a Strange Days poster doesn't exist. I think the ones that were actually used have concert info at the bottom, and the blanks are leftovers. They could have used any picture, but just happened to use the one from the back of the first album. It's therefore referred to as a promo poster for the 1st album, but I think that's a mistake.

The second tour poster (which was used for Philly) also advertises the 1st album at the bottom, along with Strange Days. However, it just happened that they didn't use a picture from either album.

I have seen actual promo posters for The Soft Parade and L.A. Woman.

I have the LAW poster and the Unknown Soldier poster as well. Interesting info about the usage. I always thought and was told, they (first album poster) were used for promotional purposes. They were displayed in record stores, head shops, book stores etc. You can see a bunch of them in the background in some of the Cal State 67 photos. Others were given to promoters to promote their local concert.

You could be right. It just seems kind of rare to have been that widely distributed.

Thanks SF, but BD67 is correct, that is from a magazine. This is the poster I'm talking about (minus the text advertising the concert). This couldn't have been the only one produced. It has the Elektra logo like the first one and shows both album cover art. If it was just for the Arena show or produced by the concert promoter, I doubt it would have looked so similar to the other poster.

That's the one I was referring to as well. Elektra also produced a similar poster for Arthur Lee and Love. I guess they could have been intended for dual use (either to advertise a show, or simply to promote the album or albums). If so, I would assume that the poster above is the only one produced for Strange Days. Otherwise, you'd think there would also be another promo poster for the first album.

here`s mine in a temporary frame

One thing that I`m sure of is that it was not made by the promoter to promote one specific show (in this case the Aug. 4th Philly Arena gig), if it was it would surely have included WFTS as well.
So it was most likely made for "dual purposes" of both promoting in stores etc. as well as acting as a kind of tour poster/concert poster blank.

Very nice! I wonder if there's another one that does include WFTS. I've seen the "Unknown Soldier" promo poster, but never one for the album. Elektra produced a similar concert poster blank advertising Love's Four Sail album, which was released in September 1969. However, The Soft Parade promo poster doesn't have a space for concert advertisement.

I'd love to see one for WFTS if it does exist. BTW, has anyone seen this poster advertising a concert other than Philadelphia?

another one, more of a "commercial" poster though...still it`s a "Doors Production Company" copyrighted poster from 1968 and not a "headshop" poster

Have you seen the one that's just like that but with a more prominent logo, like you can see hanging in the Doors office during the L.A. Woman rehearsals?

Yeah, I`ve seen the one in the LAW session photos...it`s got a slighty different crop of that WFTS photo and it seems a bit smaller as well. The one I`ve got is a 1968 print, the one in the LAW photos must be a later printing...

Nice one, Mark!Is that one of the newly printed lithos being sold on that one site or is it an original promo poster?
It`s really beautiful..

It's an original from '72. An eBay seller had a few of them about a year and half ago. It measures 22" x 34".
