here is a local review.....

The sixth collaboration with producer Rick Ruben, "No Grave" , brings to a
close a richly rewarding soul-deep series that not only documented the
remendously fertile final decade of Johnny Cash's life but also stands as a
model for the proper, respectful showcasing of an American treasure.

With Cash essentially left on the scrap heap by both mainstream "country"
radio and an ungrateful, pinheaded recording industry by 1993, Rubin
stripped away extraneous Nash-Vegas sonic trash and presented the
country legend to new generations of alt-country, rock folk fans with
1994's bare-bones "American Recordings". Still stronger than new rope,
the Johnny Cash brand was off and running again in one of the great,
sustained "final acts" in music history.

Culled from the same last year of Cash's life that yielded "American V...",
"Ain't No Grave finds the singer battered but unbowed by Parkinson's
disease and--four months before his passing--the death of his beloved wife
June.

From the defiant opening title track through Sheryl Crow's splendid
"Redemption Day", an impossibly tender "For the Good Times", and on to
sweet fare-thee-well of the closing."Aloha Oe," it's a dignified, moving and
inspirational set.

it's a pretty solid album. in fact, my only complaint is in regards to the noisy chains they use on Ain't No Grave as percussion (much like the hand-claps in God's Gonna Cut You Down.) if you enjoy American V, then you can't miss the new one.

if you're still mulling over the idea of purchasing the album, download Redemption Day and let that be the deciding factor for you...

I agree he's great. I like a lot of his songs. He is also a great actor. He made some appearances in movies and he isn't bad at all. :)
