Products are OK...just
annoys me. I'm kind of possessive of my 60's music....i guess.
Keeping it pure and all. (& I'm in the biz....graphic artist 'n all.)

Well, if the sale of tacky merchandise is the only way the Doors can raise the $ to aquire more shows, or justify the release of more shows via BMR then it's worth it....I wish they could find another way though...

It doesn't seem to be a matter of what they can afford to pay. They could sell enough shoes to stretch from here to the moon, and probably still wouldn't acquire more shows. There's apparently such a huge gap between the asking prices and what they want to pay that they feel as though they're being held hostage. So, they've taken a stand that it's either a royalty deal or no deal.

I hope the Doors don't cap their offers at $500
How does the royalty deal work- what percentage does the original tape owner get? 50%?

I doubt any royalty deal would be higher than 10%. Probably a single digit percentage. That's why it's such a joke. The way The Doors reason it, they have to pay labels, distributors, printers, advertisers, engineers, etc. So they only make X% off of every release and they won't give some random taper any percentage near what the band gets. So imagine getting 5% off of every BMA album sold of your tape. BMA releases don't sell big numbers to begin with. You'd only make a few thousand at most and the money would come in a trickle, not a lump sum. All told, it's much less than what other bands usually pay for master SB tapes. There's a certain element of "share the music" that you wish these tape owners had, but then again, these tapes will only increase in value because they're so rare. Especially in the case of The Doors. It wouldn't be "just another" Doors show since there are very few of them out there. If it's an early SB tape, it's even more desirable. Any taper who doesn't make a deal with The Doors could make a much more lucrative deal with a private collector. So, in a sense, there's a very good reason not to sell to The Doors.

Well, we try to keep it up to your level.

Just breaking your balls! Any chance on that Eindhoven tape?

The royalty offer probably sucks ass. We got 1% for BYB. The vast majority of tapes came from our collection or we purchased upgrades. RK bought 2 tapes. The artwork, photos and packaging couldn't have cost that much.

1%?
Thats ridiculous...Are all bands that stingy towards collectors?
I thought at the very least you'd get 15%

In the 'ask Jeff' section of LL, I posted a question on if the Doors would ever market clothing like what Jim wore- such as a European tour style leather jacket, Hollywood Bowl type vest, engineer pants, etc....
Jeff did reveal there will soon be official Doors Converse 'shoes'.
I think he means sneakers, for when i think of Converse, i think of running sneakers, and basketball sneakers.
WHAT THE F**K????
What is your opinion of the Doors sneakers? Will you wear them with pride?
Are these out on the market, yet? I haven't seen any since this post was first started! Just curious as to what they look like! Has anyone actually bought a pair?

No they only have the Grateful Dead and Kurt Cobain shoes featured on the Converse website.

I really don't think this is any different than pasting a Doors logo on a t-shirt and selling it at Hot Topic. as a teen, I woulda killed for a pair of Converse w/ the Doors/ Morrison on them. people, especially the younger crowd, like wearing their heroes on their clothing, its a venture into self-discovery, its how people label themselves in such a mixed-up society and set themselves apart from everyone else.
with that being said, there is a fine line that must be recognized when it comes to marketing anything such as this. I believe that the Doors using their image on clothing in a tasteful way is not harmful, nor will it tarnish their image anymore than selling a bumper sticker with their likeness on it, but when/ if the band starts popping up on cereal boxes and soft drinks, ie; High School Musical, Hannah Montana, etc..., then there's a problem.
so, anyone planning on buying a pair when they hit shelves?

Maybe a little off topic but I know that some time ago I thought it was Susan Sarandon designed a bra to auction to raise money for cancer research. She desinged a bra with the face of Jim where the tits are.
I would have bought that.
Not gonna buy any sneakers cause I don't wear them. I will admire the photo's from people who do buy them and will show them.
