What a week here in New York !! First an earthquake, something I had never experienced before (things in my place were actually shaking) and now Irene. With the expected power outages I probably won't be online for a few days starting Sunday. We here on Long Island have always gotten lucky in that these things always seem to miss us but we may not be so lucky this time.

I hope Irene will get weak as soon as possible and cause minimum damages.

I'm keeping calm but this is serious. On the South Shore of the Island, which is about 10-15 minutes from here, they have already ordered mandatory evacuations. I'm far enough from the water that I should be alright, but there will, at least, be major flooding and power outages. We're expecting winds of at least 80-90 mph. I just finished doing what I needed to do to the house (windows, putting furniture away etc.). By tomorrow morning I'm going to pack up my computer and most important valuables (Doors collection or food and water, decisions decisions....). Seriously though, I'm 45 and have lived in N.Y. my whole life and this is shaping up as the worst storm we've ever encountered. One can only guess what this will do to an already crappy economy.

I'm shutting off my computer now and packing it away. We're supposed to start getting this here on the Island in about 3 hours. It's the water we're most concerned with. You have the surges from the ocean combined with heavy rainfall so there will be serious flooding. I've basically done all I can and secured things as best as possible. For everyone in this forum being affected by this storm my thoughts are with you and I hope everyone's alright.

Last words, last words, out.

At least until we regain power. :)

I hope all is OK with all of you East coasters.
I hope also there's no considerable damages on your properties and stuff.

Strange days have found us in Japan,
Strange days have tracked us down
They'regoing to destroy our casual joys,
We shall go on playing
Or find a new islands.
