Reminds me.... of the 60's ....my folks told me in junior high when I started my little garage band..."that's cool..but as soon as the hair gets long, you 're out of the rock biz". Oh, those Beatles were such a bad influence!

So, anyway, as I was saying there were all these songs about "letting your freak flag fly" and "Almost Cut My Hair"...and "Easy Rider"...all that innocent feeling of being a part of something really new, something bigger than yourself, and there was hope for a real change coming in the world...revolution, right on, n' all.

This song just really takes me back and gives me a bittersweet feeling thinking about the current state of jaded times and loss of innocence.

EASY RIDER is such an iconic 60's hippie/freak movie. So much great music in there....couldn't have been a better soundtrack for the 60's if it had made as a music documentary.

I saw it at the theatre back in the day and was likely just a bit hazy , but I was wondering what subsequent generations thought of the movie in general and music specifically.

LET YOU R FREAK FLAG FLY. Here is the Byrds' doing "Ballad of Easy Rider"....still holds up quite well. Beautiful. And some fine video from the film. Peter Fonda, Dennis, Jack were so cool.... Of course the ending didn't help our attitude about red necks and "pigs". If possible, we were even more pissed at the red necks and Nixon as we walked out of the theatre..the whole anti-establishment thing!

The music...Jimi, the Byrds, Steppenwolf, The Band. Dylan was asked to contribute, but was reluctant, so the Byrds coverd "It's Alright Ma, I'm only Bleeding" For the title song, Dylan wrote the first verse and said simply, "Give it to Mcguinn. He'll know what to do with it." Man, did he ever!

masterpiece were supposed to be sent to the NY label offices, but there was a mix up and they were "lost" for over 30 years in a warehouse in
LA. Only discovered recently, the devastating loss that knocked
Andersen off course for decades, is finally available.

Sorry it took me so long to post.
That music makes me wish I was soaking in one of NM hotsprings or my hottub at home with a cup of hot irish coffee. ( I have a cold right now )

Thanks, twilla. The ankle is slowly getting better. Another month or so.
It's ok with the walking boot, but if I stretch wrong in my sleep the pain can be unbearable. Those torn ligaments with an ankle sprain/break take so long to heal. But mostly it feels fine..just no long Autumn walks with the boot.
I last about 10 minutes. Ouch.

But really, all is good!!!

Some of the strangest and most beautiful folk psych music ever created is on this brilliant album by Tom Rapp of Pearls Before Swine. If you haven't heard it before, which is likely...PLEASE trust me and give it a shot.... "Balaklava"

By Wizards Form Kansas....Bill Graham loved this band so much, they were regulars at Fillmore East and also opened for such greats as Cream & Hendrix. Any who love Quicksilver will appreciate the Wizards' who play with the same brilliant intensity.

Glad you like it.....ebay has a couple of nice vinyl copies...at "Balaklava, ebay music".

The intro recording of the last surviving bugler from the Charge of the Light Brigade always gives me chills! ...and then into the great LP....

A must have for psych lovers and Tom Rapp is so underrated. Pearls Before Swine IS Tom Rapp with a rotating group of backing musicians.

Texas based like 13th Floor Elevators and Bubble Puppy. But they ooze California through every note!!! Most know San Francisco Girl,
but the rest are brilliant.

As fully great as any 69's band...period. This fave of mine can get me soaring

Byrds great Gene Clark just might be might favorite solo artist ever.

He rarely covered anyone else, but this is a great cover of a John Fogerty song, along with Carla Olson. They had a magic together. Sadly, Gene died at the young age of 46, while making plans to record their second album together.

The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard and Clark

Considered one of the best Country Rock LP's ever recorded....with Doug Dillard & Gene Clark. This track...Train Leaves Here This Morning is credited to Gene and Bernie Leadon (later founder of The Eagles). Bernie said he only added a small bridge or something and that it was all Gene's song, but Gene gave him credit, & shared royalty of course...that's just the kind of good guy Gene was. Ironic since Crosby and McGuinn did all they could to keep Gene from getting to many songs on the Byrd's LPs...they were jealous of Gene's great songs and subsequent bigger royalty checks.

A masterpiece of an album....here is Gene and Bernie's song...I love it more than the Eagles version....how about you??

For those who love the 60's this is it... in song...at least one, or two sides.

So many 'new', lost tracks showing up nowadays! Songs by favorite
artists....buried in someone's attic or basement or record company warehouse.

We never really thought about it back then--that there might be lost,
rejected or alternate takes..really great tracks that we would have loved to
hear but would not get the chance....

until now!

for his fourth album....unfortunately buried until now.
His untimely death put a stop to what could have given him some much
