LOVE Collectors Edition Reviews...anyone

LOVE was another great band from the 60's and of course VERY Doors related.
I think it would be great to have this special topic about the band who was such a big example for The Doors.

LOVE Collectors Edition Reviews...anyone

Post by jamestkirk »

I have the new Rhino Collectors edition in my player right now...
it IS excellent!!

AloneAgainOr alt mix puts Bryan's vocal up-front where he wanted it.
Excellent mix with a very close presence to the performances. Next best
thing to being in the studio. Old Man is so different on the guitar intro
that it must a different take. You Set The Scene doesn't fade-out
like the original, it ends with some chatter after the last chord (I THINK it's
the one we've already heard with his rap at he end).
Wooly Bully is just a fun filled romp with laughter & banter...one of those
tension reliever breaks with Arthur finally ending it with a "time is money"
coaching job. Some reviewers have said it's a throw away, but it's good
to hear them still having a good time.

I may listen to the alt mix version as much as the original (NOT!), but
a lot. I like having an entire FC alt mix with the complete track listing.
It really does make me feel like having had the privilege of an
invite to sit in on the recording session. Kind of like when Donovan
& a select few were invited to the A Day In The Life Beatles final
sessions. History in the making.

Even if uneven at times....it is a must have!!

I just listened to it. The alt. mixes are very interesting for the various bits and parts that you can hear more clearly. The one that really stands out is "Old Man", which sounds amazing in this alt. mix. I can see why that was done with "Alone Again Or". Bryan had a terrific voice, but Arthur does give a better vocal performance. Bryan probably needed a few more takes. The original mix blends the vocals together nicely. There are also a few nice extras that weren't included on the previous edition. "Wooly Bully" and the joking around leading up to it, and the alt. backing track for "Andmoreagain" are the standouts. The booklet has some good info. about the origins and inspiration behind some of the songs. This is quite a package, especially for someone buying the album on CD for the first time.
