Film Footage of the LA Woman Studio Sessions

We're lucky to have former Doors road manager Vince Treanor here to answer fan questions and share some of his memories. Ask Vince about anything related to the equipment The Doors used, stage set-ups, specific concerts, the band after Jim's death, and working on the Oliver Stone movie.

Film Footage of the LA Woman Studio Sessions

Post by secrethostofthetownship »

Hi Vince-

Do you have any inside information that you can possibly share with us in regards to there being any film footage that captured the Doors in the studio during the recording of the LA Woman album?

I asl this only because i have seen pictures from thsi session and there is one w/ Ray sitting just behind a 16mm film camera.

Or any film footage that you might know of that would be of great interest to us hardcore Doors' fanatics.Like possibly film of them performing "Ghost Riders in the Sky","Paris Blues',"The Soft Parade" etc.

Thanks.

Film Footage

I regret that I cannot accurately answer your question. Remember that at that time I was on official leave from the group as a result of the cancellation of their road performances owing to Jim's poor performance in New Orleans.

When I went to the studio is was either early morning or late evening. I was checking the status of the equipment, making sure that all was well and they needed for nothing.

Once again, when you look at any photos of any recording session at that time, you have to see a film magazine capable of containing at least 400 feet of 16MM film - about 109 minutes worth at normal speed. Unless you can absolutely confirm the presence of a large magazine, any camera present was for the CCTV system set up for comms between Bruce, in the upstairs office, and the guys downstairs.

The only photo with a camera I know of is one sitting on a tripod, with Ray sitting by it, film magazine in hand.
Anybody got it so they can post it up?

There's black and white film video footage of the Doors recording Crawling King Snake during the LAW sessions. It will be commercially released according to Jeff Jampol, manager of the Doors.
