Meh. I would have preferred Hoffman's take on "Who Scared You."
The 2 remixed tracks are digital as well. Kind of defeats the audiophile approach of keeping everything analog until the last possible second.

Jeff Jampol had mentioned that a few tracks without vocals would be included as bonus material. This really sucks. Those 2 40th anniversary bonus tracks scream out FILLER!

Yeah, these two tracks just feel like ads for the remixes. Might explain why Hoffman is also giving away a Perception box set on his site. I'm sure they'll do the same thing with 'Morrison Hotel.' Hoffman said he wanted to have Botnick mix some instrumental versions but Elektra wasn't too crazy about the idea. I guess this was Plan B.

when you click on the cduniverse link, it lists a release schedule that includes these expensive Japanese import CD releases of the Doors albums:
Japanese only SHM pressing. Digitally remastered. The SHM-CD [Super High Material CD] format features enhanced audio quality through the use of a special polycarbonate plastic. Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players.

Yikes! "Everything is fucked up as usual."

First reviews of the Steve Hoffman mastered Soft Parade and Morrison Hotel gold CDs are showing up on the Steve Hoffman Forums:

By Steve Hoffman

Good morning. I'm not home and I have no personal computer (it went ka-Boom) so I'm a bit out of touch.

Possibly the file got corrupted down the line on MORRISON HOTEL with static on a section of "Roadhouse Blues". Replacement disks will be manufactured but since this has to go through WB inventory control it will take a few weeks. A replacement disk will be yours if you want it, never fear.

Sorry for this. Sheet happens.

Regardless of where you bought your MORRISON HOTEL, don't return to store or on-line dealer. Just contact Audio Fidelity (link on my homepage). They will take care of you.

Sounds amazing, better than the 40th anniversary remix to my ears.

Did not expect this much difference. Gonna dig out the LP and compare it with that!

I was thinking about buying this and the new Morrison Hotel. I allready own the vinyl box and the Perception dvd-a box. However, have not heard any of the Steve Hoffman remasters. Is there a noticeable difference?

I am not really one to be able to tell much of a different on this kind of stuff (not an audiophile..I suppose thats the proper term??) ....but in my opinion, yes I can tell a difference on SP. I have yet to get MH just because I do not want to deal with shipping it back if the RHB track is all fucked up in the beginning.

Thanks for the reply! Think I'm going to go ahead and get them. Better to get those now, then when their out of print I guess.

Has anyone gotten a copy recently? Have they fixed the error discs?

I have to say I really like the clarity of the '99 remasters. They did a good job with them. But they aren't as "warm" as the original LPs. For that warmer analog sound, I recommend Hoffman's remasters. His recent SP and MH releases match up nicely with the DCC albums.

As far as I know, the errors on MH haven't been fixed yet. Meaning if you buy a copy now you'll have to send it in to Audio Fidelity to be replaced with an error-free version. Has anyone heard of anyone getting their replacement disc yet?

I ordered my copy from TowerRecords.com on 9/7. I listened very carefully to "Roadhouse Blues" at 0:15 and 0:27, and didn't hear any errors. How noticeable is it?

Thanks for the advice Porsche! Think I'll wait now for reviews saying Morrison Hotel has been fixed before I purchase that one.

The reason I was on the fence about getting this is all the other Doors stuff I own is Great! Love the remixes on the Perception dvds, the 99 remasters (also included in Perception on the cds), as well as the vinyl box I got recently.

If you do have an error-free copy, it'd be the first one I've heard about after reading through all the messages on Hoffman's board. But I suppose it's possible if only a certain number of CDs were affected. Here's the opening of RHB with the distortion on it to compare to yours: http://www.sendspace.com/file/6wuax5

The flutter occurs in the right channel about 15 seconds in, and then it occurs again more subtly at 27 seconds in. It's easiest to hear with headphones.

Thanks, Porsche. I do now hear the errors on my copy. I was expecting it be louder than that.

I was wondering if anyone had received their Morrison Hotel replacement discs when I decided to drop by the Steve Hoffman forums to see if there was an answer. And I found this post from Oct. 14:

To our friends,

As indicated in your emails that you sent to us regarding the MoHo replacement discs, the factory used the wrong master in re-manufacturing. We work with one of the finest plants in the world, ODS, and in this case a manufacturing error happened, and it was on the Morrison Hotel. Lucky us. Instead of using the new master, the old master was re-used. After we received emails last night, we immediately emailed the plant. I personally spoke to the plant this morning and they acknowledged the error. They'll be making replacement discs for the replacement discs.

"s**t happens". Sorry, guys for the inconvenience. No reason to send back the discs, keep 'em-- We have all of your information on file and will automatically send you out the new replacement disc as soon as possible. ODS has promised they'll re-manufacture as quickly as possible, and we'll get these back to you. Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks for your support.

I believe this is the second time I've seen the phrase "shit happens" come from someone at the company related to this error. (Hoffman said it last time.) Is this really going to be their company stance? Sure, mistakes can happen and I'm glad they were ready to sort things out early on, but now they have to issue a replacement disc for the replacement disc. Unreal. It might be time for Audio Fidelity to find someone else to manufacture their discs.

I finally got this and the 73 best of sacd. I already had the MH hoffman gold disc and LAW on sacd. All in prep fot my sacd player.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for high quality doors cds at an affordable price? Asside from the infinity box set as its clearly an insane price

Particuarly any possible options of high quality masters on cd outside of the six studio albums?

in my opinion theb best 73 SACD doesn't worth its price, the sacd of AP are way better than the best of.

Gold cds are good, also target cds ;)
