Does everyone have the same cover? I have seen the cover in colour on the net, but never on an actual box. Was the colour version just for advertising or was it meant to be that, and then it was changed?

yeah... I just thought it was weird that people would use that to advertise it and started to get confused. I guess it's more striking than the box! Thanks.

No you're better off seeking the bootlegs used on BYB separately via torrent sites or through trade because most of them sound better than they do on BYB.

I paid for the box when it came out and was more than happy with the purchase. Yes, a lot of the material was already available underground, but I thought it was a neat idea to support. It is a cool, alternative look into the band's live prowess.

I thought it was a cool idea at the time and, of course, I bought it anyway, but except for The End from Singer in better quality I already had everything on it. I've always felt there should be a part 2. If done properly it could be an awesome release.

The Hendrix Oakland 69 tape was released as the first album in their mail order series and is good quality for that era.

There's also a killer Ray Charles that's arguably his best live album.

Boot Yer Butt is available to listen to on Spotify for free. I had never heard it before, but I've enjoyed what I've heard so far. The track list from Wikipedia is helpful regarding venues and dates, but it's incomplete. There isn't any information for the following tracks: Wild Child #1, Spanish Caravan, Little Red Rooster, Wild Child #2, Love Me Two Times #2, Hitler Poem (Miami?), The Spy, Blue Sunday, Petition The Lord With Prayer/Maggie M'Gill, Will The Circle Be Unbroken. If anybody can provide the dates and venues for these tracks, that would be awesome.

There are a number of d/ls at filestube with wide variations in file size...you choose.

http://www.filestube.com/search.html?q= ... select=All

(mediafire.com is always an easy download....scroll to the bottom of the list of d/ls at the filestube site above...but any link that works is GOOD, as so many are disappearing everyday!!)

Didn't they supposedly have a horn section at the L.A. Forum? I didn't hear a horn section during Touch Me.

They had an orchestra section for both shows. You can hear them better on the MSG show -- probably because of factors like how the sound was set up, acoustics of the venue, and where the taper was -- but you can still hear the strings and horns during the Forum show. Listen to the quiet part of "Touch Me" (where Jim sings, "I'm gonna love you...") and you can hear the strings in the background. Not sure if they're easier to hear on one source versus another. They're filling out the sound of the band more than anything else.

I listened to it again and I heard what sounded like strings during the quiet section. They were very faint, but I heard them.

On an interesting side not, Jim doesn't sing the "Come on" at the beginning which leads me to question whether or not he mistakenly missed the "Come on" during the Smothers Brothers performance as we have been led to believe.

I also find it interesting that they didn't record L.A. Forum and MSG shows. They thought these performances were important enough to warrant an orchestra but didn't bother to record them.

On the L.A. Forum audience recording, the orchestra performs on Tell All The People, Who Scared You, Wild Child and Touch Me.

I always thought it was a bit odd that the band hired an orchestra to accompany them at two of rock's most prestigious concert venues from the era and didn't properly record the concerts. Not that every big concert was a contender for an expensive, professional recording; but these were unique shows due to the orchestra being employed. Seems like it would have been an appropriate opportunity to capture the events in question.
