launches 155 years old Port!

In 2008 winemaker David Guimaraes tasted an excellent stored and treated Port from before the Phylloxera (a XIX century plague that devastated most of the european casts) era at a family in the Douro. Taylor’s will now market this 1855 wine entitled Scion in a gift box and in a edition of about 1,400 bottles in December. (Scion: a descendent of a distinguished family.)

I was fortunate in 2004 to visit the Taylor's caves in Gaia near Oporto. Astounding caves! An enormous place where so many wine barrels
and bottles rest, the result of the seat and blood of many generations.

One thing is certain we could not take 155 years to decide...
I bought a bottle this saturday for Christmas. A late bottle vintage from Taylor's for...€ 15,99. Fine to me and to my wallet.
("Vintage port is made entirely from the grapes of a declared vintage year and accounts for about two percent of a year's total port production. Not every year is declared a vintage in the Douro. The decision on whether to declare a vintage is made in the spring of the second year following the harvest. The decision to declare a vintage is made by each individual port house, often referred to as a 'shipper'.")

Here's some more info about this wonderful wine. I think Portuguese and English people are the ones that appreciate more. I heard that China is becoming a great market. There's big money becoming available to spent on that country and companies are investing a lot over there.

Port is not as popular here as in Europe and UK, but my friend has a good bottle he wants to share...I'll try some, Victor.

I have not ever had a really good Port.

There's a world far beyond our knowledge and understanding... It seems we have a glimpse sometimes with these eccentricities while reading, listening, seeing these news. For other people it's everyday's business.

I read a little about it and it seems the history of this watch brand dates to the 1930's after two portuguese businessmen went to Switzerland to order a complex watch, I think for naval purposes. There's more models always with limited editions and eccentric prices.



And James, you should try to find and taste a good vintage Port. You will probably find out for say 30-50 US dollars. Prices are variable. I bought and offered one bottle in Brazil a few years ago for the corresponding price of 30 US dollars. It was very sucessfully introduced in a party, after diner.

I'm surprised the ladies from this forum have not come with some of their luxuries. I wonder if they are expecting us to talk about expensive cars.
