Love Cover Versions

Post by BallroomDays67 »

Michael and Johnny, Are there any cover versions of Love songs that you particularly like?

Speaking of that, in the "Daydream Believers" clip provided by jamestkirk, you can see Bryan talking to radio deejay Rodney Bingenheimer. Back in the 80's, The Bangles recorded a tribute to Rodney to the tune of "7 and 7 Is."

This may cause it to appear that I'm totally out of the loop, but I can't recall ever hearing more than a couple of cover version of our songs. The Nashville Brass doing "Emotions," and Mae West, doing her take on my guitar solo, from Seven and Seven is. Both were very good! JE.

jtk, That is a most impressive list, I had no idea! Every few months, I get royalty statements, and tend to only look at the checks, or tax forms. From now on I will definitely pay attention. This is just incredible.....Thank you! JE.

PS: Now I understand why Can't Explain generates so much in royalties.

I wonder if anyone has compiled a list of the versions of Hey Joe that use Johnny's lyrics? I think Love's is the only version I like that uses the original lyrics. My other favorite versions, by The Leaves, The Music Machine and The Jimi Hendrix Experience, all use Johnny's lyrics. I don't care much for the Byrds' version.

Johnny, were you surprised when other bands besides The Leaves used your "Hey Joe" lyrics, or do you think it naturally became the standard after it was a hit for The Leaves?

I was surprised anyone used my lyrics, they were purposely written to make no sense. When Herb Cohen, (from Third Story Music) asked me to write them down. I thought he he was messing with my head, and he did in fact mess with my money. This is another one of those weird things that happened, in the life and times of a group, of misfits, who had the audacity to call themselves Love. JE.
