For Michael: Neil Young

What with the Buffalo Springfield reunion on-and-off now, some questions regarding Neil Young's truncated role as "producer" for Forever Changes. As best as you can remember, what was the reason for his initial inclusion on the album? Did he actually contribute anything on both the production side or musically? What was your slant on having a peer given a role of authority?

Everything I know about Neil Young being lined up to produce Forever Changes I learned second hand.

Kenny told me Neil was to be the producer, never why...just that he was. Then, on the very eve of the sessions, I heard Neil had changed his mind. That's all. No reason was given. He made no contribution whatsoever to the album in any way that I'm aware of.

I had no objection to his producing. He might have done a fantastic job. We'll never know.

Neil has always been about the "sound".....it has to be RIGHT.

So, we will never know, but he certainly always has the artist in mind, especially after his disappointment in his his solo album (though that is my favorite!).
