Speaking of Earthquakes - St. Louis, Nov. 9, 1968

We're lucky to have former Doors road manager Vince Treanor here to answer fan questions and share some of his memories. Ask Vince about anything related to the equipment The Doors used, stage set-ups, specific concerts, the band after Jim's death, and working on the Oliver Stone movie.

Speaking of Earthquakes - St. Louis, Nov. 9, 1968

Post by sore & crucified »

Today in Baltimore I got a taste of my first earthquake. Quite a surreal experience.

But, it reminded me of The Doors concert in St. Louis, November 9, 1968. At 11:02am on the morning the band was to perform, a 5.2 quake hit the region (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1968_Illinois_earthquake).

Vince, did you arrive in St. Louis early enough that day to feel the quake?

Also, the concert was originally scheduled to take place in the Kiel Auditorium. But, I remember some years back reading a lady's web page who had attended the show mention that the concert was moved to the St. Louis Arena where the Blues played hockey - a dome shaped building (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Louis_Arena). I remember that she even had a couple of photos of the show posted on her page.

Vince, do you remember the venue being moved to the Arena and do you remember the reason it was moved? Maybe because of the quake?

When I was living in St. Louis I went to the library to search the newspapers and find out what I could about the Nov. 9, 1968 show. But, the only thing I found was in the days leading up to the concert. It was just a short promo for the concert to be held at Kiel. Didn't find any mention or reviews of the show in the newspapers after it was over.

Any recollections here, Vince?

Thanks again,
Mike Z.
