Exactly. Taking into account the anniversary, they blew this. They might be feeling the need now, upon all the Fog rants, but I highly doubt we are going to receive anything related to the debut or even Strange Days, next year. Guys, you'd be better off not seeing, reading things where there're just ain't.

Finally had the time to listen to this early performance and I must say that I'm positively surprised by it.
We have to keep in mind that The Doors were still developing their songs and sound, but it surprises me that Jim's voice at this point is quite mature in comparison with the August 65 demo's.
Great to hear those early recordings of YMMR and SD.
Rock me sounds terrific and I like to hear Jim on bluesharp. Pity that he didn't have the patience or skills to develop his harp playing.
Hoochie Coochie Screamin' Ray Daniels is also present and it completes this performance for me.
It's good to hear one of their earliest live recordings and to me this recording is a kind of holy grail because of it's historical value.
For long Doors fans are searching for the Whisky a GoGo performance with Van Morrison, but who could imagine a couple of years back that there was somewhere hidden in a box a London Fog '66 performance including a couple of great pictures?
I'm glad that I've purchased this historical box.

Guess I will be waiting patiently for a single-disc release at some point. Never thought a day would come where I would not pre-order archival Doors product or at the very least acquire it on the day of release, but this bloated box set was went too far for this fan. The same thing may happen with the debut album box set.

I took it back to my dealer and chose the recent Solange album instead for my girl (and for our nighttime), who's hard-earned originally got this bunch of shitpile in the first place under my xmas tree. Now she's happier. Consequently, I'm happier too.

I threw my outer box away as I don't see it as being part of it really, more so a little bit of fun to open to take some of the sting out of the disappointing contents within! My box came from Amazon with barcoded stickers placed over some of the printed label / address areas so by the time I'd peeled those off and opened the packaging box the outer carton didn't look anything special. Also, what in Gods name am I to do with the box? The main box is disguised as an old file store and clearly that is supposed to be seen. I don't believe this set will ever become a collectible in my lifetime either so I didn't see the point of retaining it. YMMV of course.

I've finally gotten a chance to listen to this and I must say I'm disappointed.

Only Strange Days shows any kind of real promise for the band at this stage, the rest is really standard cover band fare. You Make Me Real is ok, but that version of Baby Please Dont Go seemed to last forever. I didn't even get to the end of Mannish Boy ... The Doors were a rather average cover band at best.

I obviously appreciate the historical nature of the recording and its importance but really, who could predict on this evidence, how significant this band would be?

The Matrix performances, a relatively short time after this, show incredible progress.

I agree with your concern but imagine if they just appear to do Strange Days then walk off, you'd be much more amazed of them. But it's true. They lack confidence and that's the reason I see for the majority of the covers in the setlist. Their ability to command on stage is left to be seen and later earned at the Whisky. But still, it is quite a thrill to hear they were already better at this very stage of their career than expected.

I still find it hard to believe this box set is how the band finally decided to release this rare, historical recording. I am still holding out for this 30 minute performance to be included in some other configuration that includes more music. I just could not justify acquiring the over-priced box set filled with useless memorabilia replicas and other bloat just for a tape, while intriguing and historical, but a tape with performance and sound limitations.

Pricey for sure but it is great to hear this early live show. The covers and originals really sound good. I was impressed with their per performance given how early in the game this was!

its been reissued for years, I've seen it in so many formats and its always expensive, they reissued it last years as a big cd/ vinyl dvd box set, its 2 fucking songs!!
