my friend asked me a question about the Fog released date and I don't know how to answer them so much appreciate it if got little input but if not sorry to ask- my friend owns music shop, they just preorder through PayPal on the website, they were not a member of the Doors site- so since we know it not suppose to come out to 16th now not 9th- they don't know what should do as was not member- they got the PayPal details still, so do I tell them to just wait and see what happens? Or who can they contact? :)

How is it that no one here has been able to get an advanced copy for review, and share it here?

Jim is on the verge of becoming the Lizard King during the London Fog residency? Talk about exaggerating things.
None the less, a good review, thanks.

So does anyone know for certain when Ray got the Piano Bass? The lack of Piano Bass is going define the sound in this period of the bands lifetime.

Wonder why the heck noone seems to be able to know the fact that the Doors never was a house band at the Whisky. I read this in every magazine for years now, from NME to Rolling Stone. Distrubing and seems it has become a norm not to conduct one fuckin research before they publicize their articles.

I think "You make me real" sounds really good :D
Strange days is the pearl of the show as I already expected. Too bad we don't have the whole performance...

Rock me sounds like a regular 70's version. Overall I'm pleased with Morrison's voice =)

Strange days indeed is the highlight . I love that version . Whos playing the harmonica ? Jim?

Cant wait to listen to the Fog , its truly a historical performance ,who could have thought that someone would record the band at their infancy

Indeed. The way Jim sings is fuckin tremendous. Already commanding on such a level I thought it can't be yet around this time. That's why I miss badly those two tunes marred by Ray's vocal which could have been another testament of his very own, still evolving but already rocking style at its freshest. Ray's perfectly peerless instrumental backing was expected. He was the greatest of them all in this sense and hearing him also at his freshest and now with the Doors and not the Ravens, I risk saying he sounds even better, inspired than later on. John's delivery surprised me equally to Jim's vocal the most. His importance grew in my eyes. Not because he is firing on all cylinders with an over-the-moon passion, rather because of the skills shown, with familiar fills already present in You Make Me Real and Strange Days. His significance during these early days seems bigger now upon hearing all his contribution from only these short samples.

Fog was recorded only 3 months before they began recording their debut album in Aug 1966.

Wow. So when did they get the piano bass then? They must have had ALL those first album songs at this point, and the piano bass must have integrated rather quickly.

Perhaps this is an opportunity to compare The Doors pre and post Paul Rothchild?

Yeah, it was almost 4 months (started on Aug 24) but in case of the Doors, 3-4 months is a considerable time. Especially during their first year. His self confidence surprised me because I always thought Jim needed the Whisky to tackle his fears in order to become the singer we know but seemingly, he already earned that prior their Whisky tenure. And now, looking back, piecing the puzzles, for instance, the account of him having a fight at the Fog with an audience member (opposed to the beginnings, being the smallest guy on stage, only showing his back) confirms his commanding personality already present.

Their demo from the previous September show Jim's vocal in its infancy, still in the process of finding his voice. In my view, when they started performing at the Fog in February, that might have been another cornerstone in his evolvement, which surely was not on par with this May Fog performance and where I would draw the line for his stepping into the third stage to become a singer. A few months pass and by the time they were thrown off the Whisky wagon and started recording the debut, Jim is already through that previous phase and enters into his fourth stage under the fortunate supervision of Paul Rothchild to become ultimately a professional singer with studio experience behind his back etc.

Curious how you guys see this.

Considering the samples I would say Jac Holzmann was totally right. This recording was "crying to be released". Considering the samples what I hear is snipets of raw power, of the spirit of those soul kitchen days, those strange days. The fascinating mood of early Doors. I'm dying to listen the whole stuff.

Yeah even after hearing the strange days sample years ago I didn't expect the guys to sound so 'doorsy'

Fascinating and impressive. I'd live to hear what's on that second real.
