Nevermind, the answer is in the notes on the booklet. It's a pity that the film is lost too.I am listening to the cd right now!

Since next month marks the 50th anniversary of The Doors, the band has a number of archival releases, like London Fog, in the works. "London Fog is the first limited-edition release, but it's jumpstarting the whole thing," Densmore says. "There will be more stuff, including a couple of films, including one you haven't seen before. I'm very excited about that."

HWY and IOW?

Just met my (record)-dealer today who thought I canceled my order, so I threatened him to be his Grinch this year.. Seems, I will be only able to buy/reorder this one in January, so a download will make it until then. Who knows, maybe it's already out there. Gotta do a quick search.. ;)

No real proof, but my inclination based on several pieces of information is that this is the night they packed the club with their friends, including the UCLA friend who taped the show. People who may have been aware of some of the material (or fed titles as they were there to build excitement).
Wonder what was the main reason for inviting their friends, if this was really the show from May 1966, as they already knew the Fog is going to close. Was it to impress Ronnie Haran, who eventually also came this very night to check them out and decide if they are worthy to consider mentioning them to Elmer Valentine?

If all this true, we are in for a real treat putting this night into context.
Chris, do you think this might be actually from February? I can see the Doors being wrong about the date but the quality of performances (incl. Jim's vocal) suggest otherwise. Can you share those pieces of info that made you think this is the night they gathered their friends around?

I have the impression that the (all the) lower frequencies have been greatly enhanced in the mix to make up for the lack of a proper bass instrument.

I never even tried... :D

Thanks Milton for your magic skills!

Great performance. Jim's delivery caused several big grins on my face while listening to his approach of singing the lyrics. The guy has grown up, apparently. And what was amazing to hear was their response technic already present. Based on the fruits of this cover, their Whisky residency could have landed a month earlier as well! Robby's licks are also pretty fuckin cool.

What a fantastic version. I loved that song from Them and the doors really gave their own sound to it. Can you imagine this is 2-3 months before Jim sang the song with Van.

It will be cool if somebody can create a text transcript of the dialog and audience chatter on this recording.
I love this release but still unhappy with the poor treatment of the box, the CD and Record art sucks big time, the only thing besides the music saving the boxset is the photos....also there's too much Ray singing....wondering if we could remaster it to lower him out in the mix.

Good point Antero!

I also started to collect snippets from various radio interviews, - which they failed to deliver, as it would have been a fitting concept - using all their talks from the years on a separate CD, if this was a box release after all...

Nice addition... but too expensive!

I was very excited, so I first don't bother, that I also had to pay for the vinyl, but now my opinion has changed....
