Hi Vince,

Just wondering what sort of music do you listen to these days?

It must have been an incredible time in the late 60s w/ the quality of music, so many quality groups. Were you ever a Jimi Hendrix or Janis Joplin fan?

By training and inclination I like music. I come from a musical family and I studied Piano, Accordion and Organ.

I am an organ builder - The real ones with the pipes made to sound with wind.

I like classical music. Concertos, orchestral work but most of all the literature of the Pipe Organ without the garbage created my people who can't really compose - Modern Music - I think that is what it is called.. Noice, cacophony and a public nuisance as well as a waste of time would be my description. It is like those "Artists who paint by having some naked woman crawing across a canvass or the numerous other hairbrained excuses for seeking publicity to sell no talent crap. Mocern music and art would be be guests of honor at a burning.

I did not listen to Jimmy Hendrix or Janis Joplin except when in a performance witht he Doors as rop billing. I do not like rock music.

I do like John Denver, Peter, Paul & Mary, The Turtles sometimes, Jim Crotchie (Piano Man is an incredible statement) early Joni Mitchell and others of that ilk. I like music that tells a story or makes a statement rather than we see today, a Radio City chorus line, flashing lights and overwhelmingly loud speakers all made to cover no talent "Singers". It seems today that the emphisys is on more extravagant stage presentations and wild, repetitive and meaningless gyrations of untold numbers of people - all of which has no relevance to the music.

The Beatles had something to say and so did the Yardbirds.

I would much prefer to hear the sound of a really good pipe organ playing in an untouched acoustical setting playing such stunning works and Franck's Grand Piece Symphonic,

That is enough to get you dancing, let me tell you.

Do any particular group(s) stand out in your mind as being above average that you saw while while they were performing on a bill with The Doors?

There were two groups that remain in my mind as being really good.

Both had the same background - formal musical training, Both were writing original music, Both were ver musical. I mean that they did not play the usual lead, rhythm, bass ensemble. Rather they were, like the Doors, sort of orchestrated amd the music was refreshing and enjoyable.

Pne was a bluegrass band. There was a banjo players and he would do credit to anyone. The other group, from Hawaii, was the Silver Bicycle.

The Bluegrass band didn't sell 1 million records because they played a special kind of music. I did not really enjoy listening to that style until I heard those guys play. And play they did. I have no idea of what became of them but I hope that, in their small specialty world, they did have success.

The Bicycle broke up because of Drugs. The Drummer, very talents as were all the members of the group, could not stay away from "Pot" long enough to sneeze. He got caught and that was the end of the group. They did try replacements, but none of the people really worked as well and or skilled. These guys had played together since day one and it is really difficult to replace a member in that situation.
