I can't believe how hard it is to find photos of Love playing live in the early days, especially since they were supposed to have played a lot of gigs. The one photographer whose name keeps cropping up is Chuck Boyd. There is the one shot at the Hollywood Bowl I see everywhere and the one at the Whiskey with Tjay playing flute. And there is one that looks like it's at Bido Lito's with Arthur playing guitar and he looks like he still has a process. But it is only of Arthur. I can't believe that a professional photographer would take only one photo of the band per gig. Has anyone out there been able to find any other photos of the band playing live, other than that great set of them playing live in the auditorium?

So hard to find...some pics of Arthur & Love..not rare, but sweet...

Good stuff in one thread, thanks jtk. The new pic from Detroit has odd shading. Bryan's hair looks dark and Arthur has a quasi beard. Hard to believe that approx one month after this photo the band would be no more...

Great stuff. Love the Grande Ballroom pic. I have the "Alone Again Or" picture sleeve without the 45.

Michael tells me he has no recollection of Detroit (all a blur)...they stayed in the dressing room until their set, so he doesn't even remember who opened for them...which is not unusual. That is Michael's drum kit--he was surprised to see it because they rarely took Michael's kit on such road trips. They usually set up or let him use whatever kit was there from the previous band.

Is that the show where they didn't discover Johnny was missing and was still asleep in the hotel just as they were ready to go onstage? Michael said he thought it was Cleveland but remembers it happening--that's how much of a blur those rapid fire gigs were--a new city every night.

Nice treasure, bally. Yours is likely in better condition.

I hadn't heard that story before regarding Johnny oversleeping and almost missing a gig. With scenarios like that it is obvious why the band fell apart. Such is genius, though. You have to take the good with the bad and what you get, although sadly brief, still shines. Same could be said about JDM and the Doors even though that time in the spotlight was longer and brighter than LoVE's.
