Arthur Lee can pretty much say what he wants to..J.B.Marx wrote:I wonder if Jim still sang the same when they were playing the Whisky before they got their contract, as he is doing on the demo recordings. It could be that Paul Rothchild has something to do with it?
I read that Arthur Lee of Love said that Jim stole his complete act (& girl & fame), & that inculdes singing with his eyes close... So was Jim shy on stage or was he a 'copycat'?
He could be right or he could be jealous!
But the way Morrison evolves as singer is outrageously talented.
Morrison had never sung in any professional manner whatsoever, before he teams up with Manzarek, in summer 1965 and in August 1966 they record the debut album.
It is breathtaking! Take one good listen to Break on Thru.
It is one thing to sing a song, another to understand how to project the idea of the song, and yet another to actually do it.
The debut album was cut in a week. Believe me, when I say there isn´t any time for Rothchild to coach a singer in such a short time.
Morrison was his own man.
I think it has been grossly overlooked that he and Manzarek were trained filmmakers.
They know how to cut the bs, and project the idea.
We`s just joy-ridin'

Jim was indeed a good singer. But not as good as you say. He was good in putting feeling in his words by the way he sang. But he wasn't that great! The Doors made incredible good music no doubt about that, but Morrison certainly was not the great singer as you describe him. And that's no problem, cause with all the feeling he put in his words & voice there's no need to be a well trained vocalist.

...so you're saying you're a masterdebator.
Masterdebating on your knees to lifesize cardboard cutoffs can be construed as illegal in this country, in some states. Be careful.

I'm glad you're as interested as I. I think John's head has triangulated shockingly over the years, and his toes have grown too long. This also, coupled with progressive foreshortening of the lower leg and flattening of the palpebral fissure is remniscent of schmoglenite exposure. Its existence has only been documented in South African diamond mines and the moon.Or why not Densmore. How does he look? -
I was wondering if you have heard if John has visited either place over the last 20 or 30 years, and if so, how it will affect his upcoming album release.
