Fans of Boomtown Rats? I've always thought their music to bear a strong connection, sonically, to The Kinks, but I'm not complaining....I enjoy the sound. But it only confirms that punk rockers have always owed EVERYTHING to the 1960's...Kinks, Velvet Underground and so many more masters of rock. And I assume most punk rockers will admit their inspiration to be rooted in the 60's -- their revolt against tired prog & disco rock and their return to the simpler days of rock...guitar, bass, drums.

On his way to a Make Poverty History gig in Scotland, Bob Geldof is accidentally stranded by an incompetent chauffeur in a run-down motel in Northern England. To his horror, he discovers a lookalike contest is taking place, and no-one will believe he is the real Bob Geldof. Just when he thinks things can't get any worse, he discovers he may not be the only Bob Geldof in the room...

The cast contains over 30 lookalikes, including Winston Churchill, Madonna, Queen Elizabeth II, Elton John, Mother Theresa, Tina Turner, Margaret Thatcher and Ghandi.
This is a wonderful, self-deprecating performance by Geldof sending up his own poverty fighter "sainthood" and hero status! It runs for less than 20 minutes but I rolled about in laughter the whole time - especially when he starts to seriously compete against "himself" in a look-a-like (sound-a-like) competition singing "I Don't Like Mondays" (about the only song The Boomtown Rats are really remembered for). The local rag said of it: (paraphrased) "Geldof can't act his way out of a wet paper bag but tremendous fun anyway". I agree with the second part of this critique but I thought Sir Bob was fabulous in character as himself and really ran with it. Great fun all round - catch it if you can. 9/10
