"Sub Section 11 Amendment to the Old Doors Partnership Agreement March 11th 1971
”On March 11th 1971 the parties executed a one page amendment to the Old Doors Partnership Agreement. It sets forth a specific provision prohibiting the use of the name, The Doors, by any partner upon termination of the partnership for any reason other than the death of a partner. The amendment was prompted by a concern that after L.A. Woman was delivered to Elektra, Morrison might leave the band and form another band in Europe using the name 'The Doors.'
Manzarek testified that he signed the one-page amendment when it was prepared but did not read it and did not understand its purpose.
Abe Somer testified that he recalled some concern about the band splintering, and that the amendment, as well as all of the band's agreements, were explained to the band members before they signed."
The court found Mr. Somers' testimony to be credible and accepts it as true."

The 4 guys were all in the band together. We must remember that at the time of this amendment, three months sepatated them from New Orleans - officially, the last time they would perform in Public.

There were a lot of "What IF..." going on at that time. That did include Jim and the possibility of his doing either a record or using a back-up band to perform on his own.

This latter is, under the existing circumstances, a little foolish to contemplate as reality rather than a remote possibility.

In fact, it was the three instrumentalists who has experience going on stage with out jim. and the plans to do so again (other Voices) that may have prompted this movement.

Since Jim was NOT going to be performing publicly any more it might well have been Jim who advocated this amendment. If he was not going to sing and the other three did not exclude the possibility of their remaining as a performing group, what name would they use?

Only Abe Somers could say who initiated this amendment. The result we the defining factor in preventing Ray and Robbie from using the name for a Group.
