Sweetwater

Hi Vince -- I've heard that the band "Sweetwater" opened for The Doors sometimes and I was just wondering what your recollections about them are? I was wondering if you had the opportunity to hang out with them at all and get to know them a bit.

How you can bring back memories. Sweetwater - The band with a Black Flautist who could not dance. A motly crew of disseparate people and the singer was another Gracie Slick.

Tragedy dogged that group. The singer had a severe auto accident and suring an ooperation the Doctors had to put a tube into the lungs. It damaged her vocal cords and forever changed her voice. That was pretty much the end of the band.

They were a bunc of really nice people. I didn't
Hang Out" with any members of bands because I was usually too busy but I came about as cole to them as I could. Great musicians, Good music, nice people. The manager was "Bruce" I can't remember his Family name. He was a really slick guy but he made that group famous. Had things gone well, they certainly would have been on tp today.

Vince -- thanks for the reply, I appreciate it! Sweetwater really was a great band and it was cool to hear your thoughts about them. You are right -- Nancy Nevins' car accident really messed things up and ultimately put an end to the band. However, VH1 made a movie about them in 1999 and the surviving members of the band reunited for some gigs. In fact, they made a "live" cd in 2001 which is very good. As you said, Nancy's voice was changed due to the accident but is still very good. In the last year or two she developed a one-woman show and performs occassionally.

What nice news you have. You understand that (Bruce Glattman was the manager) I lost contact with them after the band was not functional. But how nice to hear that they got together again and made some music. They werw really nice people and fun to be around.

I did have some contact with them as a result of collaboration between Bob Greene of the Managerial firm of Johnson & Harband and Bruce. Bob asked me to help them out if I could. That request, coming from Bob, was almost as good as one from Robby.

I went to several of their rehearsals, did some sound work for them and did what I could for improving the system they had. There were 6 or 7 people in the band and it was a logistics nightmare.

How time and events pass by and little notice do we take of them. It is too bad that the accident ever occurred. They certainly would have gone up from there. At least, that is my opinion. I did like their music.
