A band I would dearly love to have the pleasure of seeing live--trippy mellow garage rock, LA California psych/rock.

Allah-Las is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California formed in 2008. The band consists of Matthew Correia (percussion), Spencer Dunham (bass), Miles Michaud (vocals, guitar), and Pedrum Siadatian (lead guitar). When the band got together, three of them – Correia, Dunham and Siadatian – were working at Amoeba Music.



They released their first 7-inch recording in 2011, Catamaran/Long Journey, produced by Nick Waterhouse for his Pres label. In 2012, they released a second single, Tell Me (What's On Your Mind)/Sacred Sands, produced again by Nick Waterhouse but this time for their new label, Innovative Leisure.

One reviewer commented that "their sound is steeped in the pop sensibilities of The Zombies and The Kinks, laced with Northern Soul, lo-fi funk and the ever-enduring influence of Arthur Lee and Love".

Allah-Las were featured in a Daytrotter session in May 2012 and their performance of Catamaran was named one of the top 200 Daytrotter songs of the year.






In September 2012, Allah-Las released their self-titled debut LP, also produced by Nick Waterhouse for Innovative Leisure. The album has been described as a "lost treasure dug up from the sand and polished to a perfectly faded sheen" and "a classic debut record, on the one hand immersed in melancholic nostalgia but on the other, enthused with a timeless charm".

In October, 2012, NPR’s World Café featured two songs of Allah-Las, noting that "the music captures the carefree, breezy sounds of California... dreamy romanticism [with] a vibe that can feel both joyous and melancholy".

Allah-Las completed their first tour in 2011, up the California coast from San Diego to San Francisco. They toured the East Coast and Europe during 2012, where their first show in London, UK was described by The Guardian as "a blissful 45 minutes on a cold night". They will be touring North America with Black Angels in Spring 2013, and will also complete a solo European tour. They are currently planning a series of dates in Asia/Australia for late summer 2013.

I bought their LP last year, great tracks on it.
I saw them playing life on Youtube, thought it waa somewhere in Amsterdam.
Well, sometimes the music us enough, no need to see the band.I never saw such great music with such a very boring band! Maybe they've perfected their stage act, hopefully.
I'm gonna buy their new LP for sure.Thanks for the heads up, Scott!

Their new album is also fantastic, Ed.

It is interesting about their boring live stage presence, but maybe as you said, they've perfected their act. The Guardian described their live performance in the UK as blissful.

Not every one has the stage presence of Jim or Arthur.

But sometimes that's just the way. Maybe it is due to shyness or stage fright.

Nick Drake was also quite boring "live" it is said, unable to chat between songs or wittily fill the spaces between songs, he just quietly tuned his guitar which was endless between every song--each song had a uniquely different tuning. He only lasted a few gigs before refusing to play live ever again. The audience was just too disrespectful (but to be expected in a British pub I would say!).

By the way, notice the rare vintage Fender Jaguar in the above pic of Allah-las! (whoops I may not have posted that one!) Not many used that model in the 60's or beyond---the Yardbirds' Chris Dreja did. BTW, Chris is STILL active..playing since 1963!

Live---Hey Ed. I don't see them as boring at all. I see 60's styled performances. Watch any early Kinks, Yardbirds, even Beatles live performances...al may seem pretty tame compared to nowadays with kids feeling like they all have to be The Who. I'd rather see the band perm seriously and well, rather than putting on a "performance" and no substance.
