Four Dead In Ohio...13 Seconds 67 Shots, Tribute song.

A tribute in song...13 Seconds 67 Shots (Kent State Massacre) 05/04/70

On the 40th anniversary of the Kent State killings (5/04/2010) I wrote the song "13 Seconds 67 Shots". I composed the song in a style similar to Neil Young's classic song Ohio in order to conjure up the mood and create an image of that place and time. I might be 40 years late but I still feel angry that so many witnesses covered up the truth.

It was a time of unrest in our American culture and the Kent State massacre is timestamped on our collective conscience. Till this day no one has been prosecuted...it seems unbelievable that innocent students were opened fired on with impunity. The students had every right to protest a war that they believed was wrong and a war they could be drafted into. No one was held accountable. No one took responsibility. The buck didn't stop anywhere.

Four students were killed another 9 were wounded and one suffered permanent paralysis.

From the Victory Bell
Over Blanket Hill
No one closer than a football field
But close enough to hell

From the Victory Bell
Over Blanket Hill
No one over 20 years old
But old enough to kill

13 seconds 67 shots
At 12:24 P.M.
13 seconds 67 shots
4 students laying dead

One side with guns
The other side with books
Well they opened fired
And spilled their blood

One side with guns
And the other side with books
Someone ordered the killing
And the students got dropped

13 seconds 67 shots
At 12:24 P.M.
13 seconds 67 shots
4 students laying dead

Na na na na na
Na na na na na
Na na na na na
Na na na na na

Young men against war
Young men who were for
While they demonstrated
The soldiers killed 4
13 seconds 67 shots
At 12:24 P.M.
13 seconds 67 shots
4 students laying dead
Is lady Justice
(4 students laying dead)
Blindfold or blind?
(4 students laying dead)
Waitin' for the truth
(4 students laying dead)
Who ordered "FIRE"?
(4 students laying dead)
How many more years?
(4 students laying dead)
To hide a lie in a little truth
(4 students laying dead)
How many more tears shed?
(4 students laying dead)
Till a brave soul comes forth

So powerful still...a chilling video. Heartbreaking. I was in so many protests in 1970, never imagining...
