THE DOORS LP's on Vinyl

Post by Buda »

With the resurgence of vinyl, more Doors LPs are expected to appear - both official and non-offical, so thought it deserves an own thread.

Here's one I just bumped into with an interesting tracklist. Wonder though about the audio experience it provides..

I don't see a record company label mentioned...with the resurgence of vinyl I wonder if this is a bootleg. Many of the bootlegs I have by various artists are vinyl and some are very good quality and some are pretty bad.

So, we may see vinyl bootlegs again too that are passed off as the real thing, as they were 30 or 40 years ago. I had a bootleg Beatles on Veejay that was just horrendous; I have still a Todd Rundgren "Runt" that is not as good audio as the original but it is cool, and a Badfinger boot that is quite good...as good as the legit release.

So you never know...

Vinyl is the only media I play.Except for a cd in my car.
I still have about 30 bootleg cd's which I never play.So what counts for me is, am I, with the release every now and then of a bootleg, going to replace all my cd's for Vinyl?
I haven't figured it out yet.Guess I will buy the "Back Door Man, Seattle 70" Vinyl and see what feeling it gives me.Thing with with Vinyl is that it is most if the times a listening experience. And the experience soundwuse on the bootleg cd's wasn't always that good. This is the thing what keeps me the most for not buying them.
But like I said we'll see what happens with the Seattle Vinyl!

It is interesting to me that legit record shops carry bootleg vinyl...I would think that that would be verboten...though I see it often myself, Ed.

I still see them and wonder what's the difference with being called bootlegs years ago and the current releases. It's more or less the same, isn't it?

right. The lines are blurred.

Look at Dylan's legit Bootleg Series?!! Not bootlegs obviously...so are some of those Doors new boots in shops "legit" bootleg releases---"Bootleg" releases that are now official releases, but at one time were what we only could previously acquire as pirated bootlegs??

I'm confused....'splain it too me!!

This is a deja vou moment for me - takes me back to the 80's when you had to check all the track listings to find out what the recordings were off. This is just another compilation mismash - The complete Danish TV Show plus one track from the Roundhouse and the excellent The End from Canadian TV 1967 - Why would anybody want this.

I have nothing rare as far as the standards here are concerned.

I can only boast to have bought every Doors vinyl album in my local record shop within a month of release in the 60's, and still have them. I guess that is my only claim to fame here...and having had the opportunity to watch and hear the growth and creative genius of The Doors with each new album as they were released. No release out-of-order discovery like most of you here.

Great time to be alive for sure, and a great way to know their music with hippie memories of the day, seeing The Doors live on Ed Sullivan. I can remember playing those platters when either I or my brother brought each album home, slitting the shrink, smelling the new vinyl...and the magic of hearing each album for the first time, as they were released. What a time!

I have the Gold (brown) labels on Elketra for the first four (NM), and MONO & stereo mint both for the first two. My red label German LA Woman first pressing is not rare but I love it. No Elektra butterfly labels in my collection (I always was disappointed in that label incarnation..thought it was a bit twee! Though I can understand those who like it, having discovered it out of its element in another time and place.)

Cheers!

@TheDoorsMusic:
That 4 LP Picture Disc box is from Italy.
See here: http://www.discogs.com/Doors-Inner-View ... se/5244618
Or here: http://doorsinfo.com/Album/Details/Anni ... re-Edition
Unfortunately without cue sheet, but this show is the same like "No one here gets out alive".
And "No one here gets out alive" is with cue sheet.

Hope I could help :)

It is so weird to see that on Arista! What country and what year ...that is a bit later Arista label, so I assume maybe 80's? Looks to be in near-mint condition, as I'm sure most all your collection is. Let's see some more rare ones!

Love those odd label incarnations. How did Doors ever appear on Arista...was it a mislabel? After Jac sold Elektra? Elektra was sold to Warner Bros, and Arista was a Warner Bros. label...so that makes sense?? But Epic is a Columbia/CBS label...how did The Doors reissues appear on completely different record company's labels?

What about those on Epic. Epic was one of my favorite record companies. Some great music came from Epic...Donovan, Yardirds especially. Ode/Epic released some fantastic music....Randy California and Ed Cassidy-- Spirit!

Nice vinyl, Stefan!

Arista Label: I do not know if that is mislabeled ... I think not !?
My Label knowledge is not so good.
I know Elektra was sold to Warner Bros., but Arista ?
EPIC is a Label from South- and Centralamerika.

Jepp, the bottom part of the E logo is missing by the malaysian LP ... strange.

Another strange or rare Label from the first LP is this I think, from USA:
Image

Or this, from China:
Image

Or this, also from China ... or Taiwan, I'm not 100% sure:
Image

Or this, from Korea, I have three different Versions from Korean first LP:
Image

This, Strange Days from South Africa:
Image

This, Strange Days from the Philippines:
Image

The last for today ... The Soft Parade from Peru on CBS Label:

Nice! That first one is a normal Elektra label from the 80's or so, I believe. But not too many pressed I believe.

The rest are very cool variations!

Thanks Stefan for the links! So, if I gather correctly, this is "just" a collection of the studio recordings?
