Paul Kantner, one of the giants of the San Francisco music scene, died Thursday. Mr. Kantner, a founding member of the Jefferson Airplane, was 74 and had suffered a heart attack this week.
His death was confirmed by longtime publicist and friend, Cynthia Bowman, who said he died of multiple organ failure and septic shock.
Mr. Kantner had a string of health problems in recent years, including a heart attack in March.
With Jefferson Airplane, Mr. Kantner pioneered what became known as the San Francisco sound in the mid-1960s, with such hits as “Somebody to Love” and “White Rabbit.”

Unfortunately this is becoming a oft repeated theme for 2016.

Sadly yes. Sad news. Time for some Airplane today...

He was a great guy, not just as a musician and his obvious legacy he left behind but as a man.

Afraid too now after this year has begun what it still holds to us...

RIP Signe Anderson

I just read that Signe Anderson passed away, the same day Paul Kantner did...for those who didn't know, she was Jefferson Airplane's first singer until October 1966.
She sang on JA's first Album, and quit the band shortly after having her first child, replaced by Grace Slick.

Just read that too. Crazy! RIP to both of them.

Signe Toly Anderson, an original vocalist for Jefferson Airplane, has died. According to a report from Psychedelic Sight, Anderson had been suffering from a series of health issues, and recently entered hospice care. She was 74 years old.

Anderson died on the same day as her former bandmate Paul Kantner, who passed away January 28th from multiple organ failure and septic shock.

In a statement, Jefferson Airplane co-founder Marty Balin wrote, “One sweet Lady has passed on. I imagine that she and Paul woke up in heaven and said ‘Hey what are you doing here? Let’s start a band.’”

Anderson joined Jefferson Airplane shortly after their formation in 1965 and sang on their debut album, Jefferson Airplane Takes Off. However, following the birth of her first child, Anderson announced her departure from the band expressing an unwillingness to tour. She performed her final show with Jefferson Airplane at San Francisco’s Fillmore in October 1966, a recording of which was issued by Sony Music in 2010. Anderson was replaced in the band by Grace Slick.
