Cool, looks like it's a full-page newspaper ad mounted on some kind of sturdy material, probably a repro...yes?First time I've seen that one...what kind of a "mall" carries something like that anyway? Thanks for sharing

this older guy comes to town every now and again and rents out this vacant store in the mall. he told me about the ad last week and I almost fell out, but he had it in storage and I wasn't able to check it out until last night.

it appears as if the original owner glued the ad onto a wooden frame and then stretched out a piece of plastic covering over it and stapled it to the sides of the frame. I'm 99.9% certain it's authentic. you can make out the other side of the newspaper.

the guy who sold him the Mexico ad also sold him a set of 4 handbills. it's hard to tell if they're the real deal or reproductions. they're San Jose '68, Cow Palace '70, Avalon Ballroom '67 and Winterland '67. like the Mexico ad, all 4 handbills were pasted onto a wooden frame and plastic wrapped. he wants $50 for this piece.

They could be real but they're all fairly common, the price would be good but if they are indeed pasted on it's not worth it.

btw just cause it doesn't mention the radio broadcast(s) doesn't mean it didn't happen. All it means is that there was more than one ad for the show. If we can find the dates of publication on both ads we could get a good idea of whether or not the ad advertising the broadcast(s) was retracted due to a fallout or added due to a new arrangement.

Strange, because that means after their shows here between
09/15-18 Hollywood, CA, US Bido Lito's

the band did go to Sunset studios the very next day to work on the tune.

Why not? They're only blocks apart.

Never seen these concert posters. Are they really rare?

Both of those are very rare, but it isn't true that there are no other copies of the Surf poster.

Man... looking through here makes my collection look pathetic! Well it's not that bad, considering I haven't been seriously collecting for that long! I wonder what gems I missed in the photos that aren't showing anymore!

Would love to see some more rare stuff to drool over!

Maybe they screwed up something. You know how demanding Paul Rothchild was. I mean Roadhouse Blues took 20 or so takes to get it done, Unknown Soldier, what, 130? Not strange at all.
Or maybe he just wiped the first four takes. Maybe the first take exists somewhere. We have the first take of Roadhouse Blues and third of Love Me Two Times and Touch Me. Probably exists, but again, management picks what they want and not release the whole thing.

If you didn't have such strong will to keep them sealed, you would have the same joy I had 50 years ago when I slit that shrink-wrap to play that first Doors LP in 1967...and a few months later, Strange Days.

What a day. Still get chills.

Really... priceless. We only find book prices of NEAR MINT LPs, never sealed!!

Happy New Year, Dan!

=)

Very cool, thanks Greg! Indeed, some very interesting items in there! Some of them have turned up again (like the HB leather pants), others didn't up to now (the "The Doors" drumskin). Thanks!

Yes, thanks Greg! I recognize some of those items as well. It's a shame that there aren't any pics, especially of the autographs. I know that the ones signed "Cheers, JMorrison" aren't authentic. The Air India signed page is authentic and was recently offered on eBay.

Wow Stefan, this collection is really off the hook. Congrats on such an achievement. You got these boxes per a given album... Wonder for e.q. about the contents of the Strange Days box.. ;)

BTW, I'd like to show my collection but it mainly consist of an extremely big amount of chronologically archived, digitalized data on separate external HDs. Guess I'm part of the new generation by collecting stuff like that. ;)
