Quite baffling that they didn't at least offer a Super Deluxe version with the entire Matrix recordings. Hopefully a standalone release of the complete Matrix tapes is still to come soon. I'll probably pick this release up anyway for the mono LP since I never got that vinyl box set that came out a few years back.

anytimecowboy wrote:yeah so a thought regarding IOW, I assume they will release a CD and DVD/BR, what happens regarding the fact that there are currently at least two unofficial digital versions of IOW for sale on amazon and other platforms? do the doors not have exclusive rights to IOW? or is there a change afoot? I assume these bootleg/non official releases will be removed?

any ideas?

Apparently, the Doors' management decided that a re-re-re-re-re-re-release of the first album would sell more than the complete Matrix tapes. And I guess they are right, but still...
However, I am confident in a Isle of Wight DVD+CD release by the end of the year.

so I guess by releasing this 8 track 'sampler' of the matrix tapes they can ensure keeping the copyright. Is that why its being released at the last minute in MARCH 2017 ?

That could be a reason, but those tracks remain unreleased in the official canon will be up for grabs, so I guess it's just a quick cash-in, which also serves as a mini-promo for the Matrix coming this year. But of course I wouldn't be surprised if they'd push this towards 2018.

Nice. That Montreux show is the one that the Doors were supposed to co-headline with Sabbath.

No. For a start they have until 31st December 2017 to release any previously unreleased Matrix tapes from 1967 to protect copyright. Also, they have to release everything not previously released, not just 8 tracks. This is just a pure cynical exercise to force a few weak-willed de-hard fans in to parting with their cash for a few lousy Matrix crumbs. The whole mother lode will follow eventually (when?) just so long as they are sure they have sufficiently milked this particular cash cow beforehand.

I hope all long-term Doors fans boycott this one. By buying it you're only endorsing their exploitative and cynical marketing strategy.

Jampol-speak:

2008: "Restored and carefully mastered from first generation tapes acquired by Elektra Records and The Doors 40 years ago, these historic shows never sounded better."

2017: "The Matrix recordings heard on this deluxe edition were sourced from the recently discovered, original tapes, previously thought to be lost. The Matrix recordings originally released in 2008 were from a third-generation source, so the sound quality of the versions debuting here is second to none."

That's good to know. I read that the AP 45 of the s/t debut LP was sourced from a copy tape as the original master tape had degraded. Has anyone auditioned a mint Elektra original pressing and compared?

It seems like once, they let anniversary dates creep up on them and miss the mark. After the nightmare that was 'Year of the Doors' shouldn't that have been a wake up call to step up and be more proactive. They told us they got LF five years ago and just now bothered to release it. It feels like there doing it again with this release. Would it be so outrageous to think that the. Doors camp could get people/time/resources to track down potential recordings and offer diehards and the regular consumer at large something truly remarkable rather than rehashing the same over and over.

I can always get these releases cheap, as I have my ways, so this may be an opportunity to get the mono LP which I don't have and hear the matrix in HQ for about £15

but there is absolutely no excuse to not include any studio outtakes, demos or alt takes here, which they DO have. Or AT LEAST a complete Matrix set. Its flat out money grabbing, its a cunty move

Why so confident that they have demos, outtakes, and alt takes?

The full track is available on all the streaming music services (Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, Google Play Music, etc.) and the audio should be auto-generated onto YouTube soon.
