Listening to my NM vinyl-Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.......oh yeah, first pressing on Tower.
Syd was such an innocent psychedelic flower child.....before the onset of his mental illness.
Sometimes, I wonder if I should be playing these old mint vinyl treasures, but HELL, what good are they if not played. I'm a collector of great music, not pretty pieces of valuable plastic.
Speaking of psychedelic, I'm working my way through the 13th Floor Elevators Sign of the 3-Eyed Men box set...10 CDs, a book and reproduction memorabilia. Anyone else get one?
The Avalon Ballroom recording sounds great. Of course, it makes me wonder if we'll ever hear the Doors at the Avalon in this quality. Another highlight is their unreleased Contact LP, which would would have been an odd combination of teen-oriented material and originals from their 1st LP. Of course, there's all 3 LPs in excellent quality, the first two in both mono and stereo, and an unreleased LP recorded between their 2nd and 3rd LPs. There's also a "Death in Texas" disc containing their disasterous show at the Houston Music Theatre. Lots of outtakes and unreleased tracks are included.
The book is pretty spectacular...photos, newspaper articles, loads of 45 labels, picture sleeves, LP covers, 8-track tapes, tickets, programs, radio surveys, studio paperwork, tape boxes, etc. It looks as though they located just about every Elevators concert poster and handbill in existence (and some variants too), and they're beautifully reproduced. Wow!!!!
But who is that guy? Lol. Is he an Elvis impersonator? Thats like the third video of his that I've found myself watching on here and I've been like "wth?"

Impersonators of Elvis, Morrison, Cash.......and he butchered quite a few others as well.
Keep an eye on E--- this guys gonna hit it big time!!!

I happen to love Elvis, Morrison and Cash. And thank god, I thought I might have been alone in thinking that he sounded terrible
I think he might hit it big time too He could be the next Will Hung. Actually, Hung has gotten vocal lessons now so he's not that bad
When Im sad, she comes to me, with a thousand smiles, she gives to me free... Its alright she says its alright, take anything you want from me, anything... anything.
MC5 - Live at the Grande Ballroom - Never heard/seen this one before, it's GREAT. Day before the recording session for Kick Out the Jams, the crowd is invited to that show. http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/dt/m ... -4580.html
Ok I'll ask you guys to trust me again for some great music. The Andrew Landers Project Lives 30 minutes from here. Records on a small label. Just a small town guy with a huge talent.
Jazzy, rockin' folk rock bluesy......nice. SOme very good guitar work even if he didn't have a great voice and wrote great songs.
If you like him, I recommend "Gertrude's Barn" CD.....for me, forget the other side of Andrew (unless it's for you)....skip the spiritual myspace tracks. He has his spiritual side but the tracks I like deal with beautiful depravity.....the name of his new CD.
Trust me and click on...Broken Hallelujah, Cardinal Mark, Oxymoron & Squeeze Play"
Good stuff......

James, have you ever heard the bootleg (at least one of them, there are probably some out there) with alternate versions of this great album?

My favourite ones:
Sweet Virginia
Tumbling Dice
All down the line
Stop breaking down
etc
hard to leave one out.
Great album!
No, I haven't, SF! Thanks! We both love it!!
Have you heard the rare alt takes from the Hot Rocks LP?! I think I've told about this before.....
Brown Sugar & Wild Horses are totally different takes on a rare pressing of the Hot Rocks double LP. Wild Horses is especially different with no harmonies, just Mick; no lead guitar break; all acoustic and very unplugged sounding...with, I'm guessing Nicky Hopkins, on a tack piano like you'd hear in a old timey western bar. Everyone I've played it for, likes it better than the original.
It was only pressed for one day before they caught the error.....The only way to spot it is to look in the trail-off on SIDE 4 -ONLY!!, where "Shelley 11-17-71" is hand etched.......never appeared anywhere else.
"After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music".

Yes, if I remember well you are a very lucky man having this rare gem on you collection
I think I have some bootlegs with alternate tracks for a few of the Stones albums. I have to check it but in addition to Exile on Main Street I think I have some stuff for Sticky Fingers, Let It Bleed and Beggars Banquet. Not only for the Stones (which are not among my top 5 bands, btw) and The Doors (which obviously are ) I always loved to hear alternate tracks. If available these are important to fully enjoy great artists. In some cases (not so rare) some tracks turn out to be more enjoyable than the official ones.
