Ya Anouk....great stuff, Mon! Another lady that has been true to herself and an influence on countless female singers......

Joni Mitchell

BTW...her unusual guitar tunings, that have been copied by many, were due to her having polio as a child. It limited her ability to play the conventional way, so she tuned her guitar in unique ways-- so she could better master what she was sure as hell not gonna let her polio stop her from achieving.

"Blue" LP is my favorite and I can't believe I left her off my favorite Canadian artists list earlier ...sorry, Canadian friends!! Well..."Hijera" is a pretty close second favorite!

I remember seeing a concert where the crowd was throwing stuff around...not sure what, flowers or trash. Joni just stopped playing and quite firmly said (as if she could back her threat), "Quit throwing shit on the stage!!" They stopped.

To Joni.....

Oh yeah. I have most of the symphonies. The 3rd and Ninth are my faves. Well, my classical collection is large too...just didn't know there were any fans here. A lot of first press 50's masterworks. Claude Debussy is a fave too. You all likely know "Claire de Lune" from the movie with Al Pacino--"Frankie and Johnny (in the Claire de Lune)" featuring the piece by Debussy. Beautiful.......(did I read somewhere it was in "Twilight"? Didn't see it...well, it's been in a lot of movies) Actually, this gets to me even more that "Moonlight"....more melancholy & runs deeper for me. Impressionist like the painters of the period.
The beauty of "Moonlight" is great too, don't get me wrong! By the way, "Claire de Lune" is also called "Claire de Lune (Moonlight)"......close your eyes and drift away. Beautiful video too....

More romantic, in a way too.....it's the passion I guess.

Thanks. Thats a nice one. Debussy seems really great. 'Reverie' is gorgeous too.

Do you know of any other beautiful piano pieces?

I just came across this one - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhN7SG-H ... re=related - It's Yiruma - 'The River Flows In You.' Really, really nice : )

Also, Yann Tiersen's 'La Plage' - Another one of my fave songs ever - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReLllNkqcxw ... I think I discovered that one on a video dedicated to Pam ^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XigDHn9KK5Y ... Pam and beautiful piano pieces seem to compliment each other well... I'm thinking of making my own, just gotta find a beautiful piece that I wanna use for it. Rae did a Pam vid too, using Debussy's 'Reverie' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdD6JA42L70 ^^

Really nice, eni! Thanks!

This will blow you away ......Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No 2.
A couple of pop tunes were "borrowed" from this. So powerful a work!

First movement should be instantly recognizable, but the second is the one that has the pop hit "All By Myself" lifted from the concerto......patience, it's good stuff.

 Here's the hit by Eric Carmen..if any of you know it...it's been covered a lot.

^ No problem

Thanks for the links, they are pretty cool.

Yeah, I know that Eric Carmen tune. I kinda recognise his voice too. His version is the original version isn't it? The vid was aired in '76 I see :)

Ya , Carmen got sued by the Rachmaninov estate for lifting the tune.....he thought it was "public domain", common mistake. He now lists Rachmaninov as co-writer on the copyright to the song.

RIGHT ON! DAN!

I LOVE Randy Newman. I think I'll post Randy Newman songs for the next three months or so!! I'd rather start a special subject dedicated to Randy but then I'd have to start one for Gene Clark, Tim Buckley, Tom Waits,
....it would be endless, so I'll just post Randy A LOT!!!

This is a favorite...a very soft bittersweet number from an almost autobiographical LP....so good. It's done with a rather tongue-in-cheek intro here, but it's really such a beautifully sad tune in the context of the original LP. I think sometimes he injects the humor, as here, to keep it from being too much of a downer for TV Land.... =)
But then Randy has always disguised pain, love, hate, prejudice, infidelity, incest (everything we love about the parodied South) and war-- with humor and irony. An artist worth exploring for more than his wonderful songs like "Toy Story" movie music.

I love his music. Thanks for bringing him to light here, Dan! Your post must be a theme song in LA.

Who here knows of or likes Ali G? He's another one of Sascha Baron Cohen's characters such as Borat. I've been favouriting Ali G interviews on youtube like crazy lately.

He's this British street/bling/hip-hop type of character and he's pretty stupid. He interviews these professionals or intelligent or interesting people on important and/or popular topics that they are affiliated with. It's really funny stuff.

Ali G interviews Buzz Aldrin... "What was it like not being the first man on the moon? Was you ever jealous of Louis Armstrong?" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTKedyQQkZQ

Ali G on Euthanasia... "Youth in Asia" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ya_uJHdO ... re=related

We all need some Mott The Hoople.....

ROCK AND ROLL QUEEN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PkG2XWfCoA

From my favorite Mott LP, their eponymous. With the great M Escher art on the jacket!! Recorded 1969.

Before the Glam & Glitter took over...don't get me wrong. "All The Young Dudes" was great, but this LP is the best!!

Two short films of David Lynch.

Of course it's in Lynch style. Weird to absurd sometimes. But always fascinating and a good mind blower. =)

Is it you who gave my Jack Russel a five star rating? He deserves it. Such a loving special dog. :)

Yes this is shot where I live. It's a few years old though. If I cross the street this area that starts at the right side. It's one of the oldest aera's in my town. A lot of history happened there with results in to ghost myths hunting the place.

That you are actually thinking about it on how to play with your toes is good enough for me. Just keep on playing the usual way. I really like your bass vids from Break on through and the Turtles cover.
Great job. :D

Looking forward to the photo's. California is beautiful.

Thank you! So glad you like it and that you like my toes.

I thought it would be a good idea so it did all of it last night. After posting it, I was a bit doubtful, haha. I guess I am pretty brave but it's better to just laugh at these things. And I agree 'fuck 'em.' The people who are gonna waste their bloody time clicking on it and commenting nastily after reading a title that puts them off can take a hike. Some might just be intrigued and then they'd click on it to find that it's gross; my message to them is 'Of course it's gross!' Why do you think I used 'Break on Through' lol   ... To make it grosser and make slightly disturbing art out of it. Not my job to be classy and conventional, or to make sure that people aren't offended.

You're comments make me feel less doubt that I had about having it up there. Thanks for the rating too. Much appreciated.

Chris: Glad it intrigued you... One of the reasons why I have it up is for it to intrigue people. Look forward to your photos.

Your toes are so not gross. Different does not mean gross. Anyone who is gonna be nasty about this has a gross character, wich is a lot more worse then two toes grown together. Remember that. Nothing wrong with your feet. Your feet look great. :D

You are showing a lot of confidence. You are beautiful. Image

And yes Break on through to go with the vid is fantastic.
