My good side, Jk I do not have bad sides
Shirley is a great lady. You hear so little of her but she has done amazing work after her film career like you said.
I used to watch Fred and Ginger too in the past. And Gene Kelly.
Wow that seems like such a long time ago.
Good idea for an evening on the couch when it's raining like crazy again.

Holy crap, I was just about to start up a list of my favorite Cagney filmsPorsche wrote:"Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye" is an underrated Cagney pic.
And there's a lot to be said for his early films, "Public Enemy" and "Angels With Dirty Faces."
Angels with Dirty Faces was my introduction to Cagney when I saw it on TCM or AMC a few years back. Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye
is pretty good, even if it is just a resurrection of Cody Jarrett (now with 30% more psychotic rage!)
The Roaring Twenties is pretty good, as far as bootlegging gangster films it has all of the essential plot elements. Not a perfect film but if you want to see the genre in a nutshell, that's it.
Each Dawn I Die (also featuring George Raft) and G-Men are entertaining, with Cagney as a 'good' guy.
I just saw The Doorway to Hell (not out on DVD but I found a TCM rip of it), his 2nd film. He's just in a supporting role but the film itself is much better than I expected (only 6.2 on IMDB), especially since it has Lew Ayres in it (before All Quiet on the Western Front, another classic).
If I had to pick just three though, I would go with Angels with Dirty Faces, White Heat, and The Public Enemy, in that order.

"Each Dawn I Die" costarring George Raft
"The Bride came COD" with Bette Davis
"Mr. Roberts" ....he played the bad guy so well.
I like to mix my blood & guts films with a little humor.
Harvey.......my by fav by another Jimmy

That's a really good one, for sure. Stewart was always good in thejim4371 wrote:Mr. Roberts was pretty good, I liked the drunken shore leave
Gonna go with Rope for that Jimmy.jamestkirk wrote:Harvey.......my by fav by another Jimmy
Hitchcock films. "Rear Window", too. But "Rope" with its one room,
taut, psychological study......great. Where did Hitch appear in that one?
(I remember 4 films with Hitch, right?)Good scene!
re: Mr Roberts...How about when Ens. Pulver blows up the laundry?!

I couldn't remember the Hitchcock cameo for Rope, but IMDB says
His profile appears on a neon sign visible through the apartment window approximately 55 minutes into the movie. Some sources indicate that he also appears walking down the street during the opening credits.

I love the spaghetti westerns featuring Clint Eastwood as "the man with no name".Also dig Peter Sellers` comedic genius in various movies, most of all in the "Pink Panther" movies..
"A Clockwork Orange" is a damn fine one as well. "One flew over the Cuckoos Nest" is another fine classic also featuring the brilliant Jack Nicholson in his prime..
"The Deer Hunter" is also an excellent movie featuring Robert De Niro, speaking of De Niro I`d also like to mention "Raging Bull", "Taxi Driver" (Travis Bickle!) and "Once upon a Time in America"...I could go on forever, not really into the "older" classics though as I have made no effort of getting into them.Cool topic!

Following the exciting post from Len, I came across this link (there a lot of others on the same subject). I guess those museums of South America really need to be explored...
http://www.emulsioncompulsion.com/2008/ ... res-museum
I retained this passage "According to IMDB.com, The film took two years to shoot and featured “more than 37,000 extras including 25,000 men, 11,000 women, 1,100 bald men, 750 children, 100 dark-skinned people and 25 Asians.” In June of 2007, it was determined that adjusting for inflation, the budget for Metropolis ran around $200 million. Film lovers never gave up hope. While not one frame from the uncut Ambersons has ever managed to surface over the years, snippets from Metropolis kept popping up from time to time."
I maybe wrong but these seem quite unusual numbers for that era.
