Right!! He wasn't required to
do it on the record, but I shouldn't have said power trio...it was a DUO!!
Randy in front of a stack of speakers stacked two high (8 or 10 feet high and running the full length of the stage...maybe 6 or 8 speakers on either side of the drummer.....no bass player, just the drummer (also playing bass). I guess he thought, hey, Jack Bruce got too much notice!, so I'll get rid of one guy up front and then it'll be just me!!
Seriously, I think Randy is one of the TOP guitarists of all time, but I think he set himself up for failure there. Think Blue Cheer, ten times louder!!
Speaking of great audiophile recordings. Believe this!!
The Association's Self-Titled first LP with "Along Comes Mary" in MONO on Valiant Records.....wide open, clean. no extra crap like reverb. As close to live that a studio recording will ever sound. If you have it listen again. If not, it's around for $5 or $10 (or was). A great folk-rock, sometimes hard rockin' piece of psychedelia. A real gem.
