WFTS Album Cover
I was in a store recently and saw a framed album of WFTS with a plaque on bottom showing "15 out of 320" or something like that. This was a cover I had not seen- it is not the original album cover. I think it had the band on it...a light blue background....and the album's name at the bottom.
I don't know if it was a bootleg or what-- but does anyone know if there was another common album cover for WFTS?

?....
I do know it was the DOORS only number ONE album and took over the
top of the charts from "Wheels Of Fire".
Was it a limited edition, import maybe...did it have the standard ELEKTRA logo?
The numbered part sounds like a later limited ed...there would not have been one released back in the day!
Did it seem to be part of the WFTS photo shoot or a totally different kind of group shot?
Interesting...I love alternate covers...even boots.
I'm sure Ed or Len or Dan will know!

It was an entirely different photo shoot-- and I am 100% positive the name of the album was "Waiting for The Sun"
It appeared to be older looking, and yes it was numbered at the bottom on a silver plate indicating it was the 15th one out of XX.
I do not know if there was an Electra label--i will have to back with someone taller b/c it was so damn high up on the wall.
What makes me ask is not only my curiosity but the price was $375 or so.
I will snap a pic the next time I am in and maybe it will help me help you to figure it out

It's a Red light. I since took it out and replaced it with a normal white light. I was going to make The Doors Room a hang-out room with furniture and stereo equipment but that idea took a back seat for now.

Ok-- it was number 15 out of 100
It was a picture album-- it was decribed to me as the same album as WFTS but they put a photo on the cover of the actual vinyl. It is WFTS-- all the songs matched up.
It was ELEKTRA....some limited edition picture album
I will post pics in a second (I had to sneak them)

I have no idea what it's worth, but there's an entry for this picture disc on DoorsInfo.com:

Odd-- that site you linked me to BD states it is a 300 numbered release-- this one was 100.
I think the site may be wrong?
This may be a stupid question-- but was does "german picture release" mean
Does anyone know what a reasonable value would be?
did they often do these picture releases?
is the picture release simply a photo on the album?
Sorry so many questions-- I have never heard of this

Picture discs themselves aren't that uncommon. Lots of labels made them for different artists/albums. It's literally an image printed directly on the vinyl and was usually a promotional item.
This particular one seems a little hard to find, but I'd say $349 is probably over its top value. There's one currently on eBay Austria (unframed) with a starting bid of 30 Euros but it still has a lot of days to go. Might be worth seeing what it gets up to. I can't imagine the album is worth more than $200-$250 to a collector who might be looking for it. The problem is that the import LP/CD market is all over the place. You might get a really great price one day and a really bad price another.
And the numbered run was indeed 300 copies, not 100. The number is printed on the back of the LP.
From what I can gather, this was released as a record club exclusive in Germany by Elektra for the 30th anniversary of WFTS. I don't really have any more info on European record club releases so maybe someone else has more details on the label: SR International Sonderauflage.

Thanks Len.
Do you mind linking me to the one up on Ebay?
I would like to track it to see what it goes for.
This store happens to be the $150 signed LMF and $150 signed Golden Scarab...they have a JDM sig for $6000 I believe and a few other things that are just way overpriced.
I was curious as to this one because I had no clue what it was.
If they are not that uncommon....but this one is hard to find....$350 is still a bit too steep in your opinion?

Here's the U.S. eBay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0455732752Lauren wrote:Do you mind linking me to the one up on Ebay?
I don't really collect imports, but I've been researching the market over the last few months and speaking with different collectors because I might have the chance to acquire some albums, and I personally think $350 is a bit much for a picture disc. The most expensive import LPs I've seen recently (and maybe this is due to the economy) have only been in the $200 range. Like I said, it really depends on what someone wants to pay/how badly they want something for their collection. If you get two people who really want it, you could get a bidding war and see the price shoot up.Lauren wrote:If they are not that uncommon....but this one is hard to find....$350 is still a bit too steep in your opinion?
They're either lying or don't know what they have. Certificates of Authenticity don't mean much unless they're from a reputable place. They're too easy to fake. It's possible this guy just bought something he knew very little about. You can see in the auction link above a clear close up image of the reverse of the LP that shows it's limited to 300 copies. I have a feeling they didn't make different runs of this particular album. But, to be certain, just ask to remove the disc from the frame so you can inspect the reverse. An honest dealer shouldn't have anything to hide.Lauren wrote:Also-- when you say that the run was 300-- why does this one state 100?
they showed me this authenticity sig, I dont know if that makes it legit....but I am certain this was 15/100

Len , are you sure it's an official press?? pretty common here in Europe on records fair, I've only seen it on bootlegger's store. 300 copies only, I doubt about that, but I could be wrong.

Or does that even matter?

hmm-- thank you so much for all of your help!!!
I initially wanted it- solely because i love the WFTS album and i thought this was a hard to find limited edition of something since it was so hard for me to find alone.
ill probably go back one more to check out the backside again and speak to the manager-- they have not present, just the kids behind the counter have been trying to explain all this
EDIT-- I dont know what I was talking about with they have not present??
I think I meant the manager was not present

That's what I'm unsure about. The label is called a "record club" label which made me wonder if they made limited edition albums licensed by the labels for members of this club. But I have a hard time believing Elektra would have allowed WFTS to be released under a different name in the '90s. And with such a bad picture of the band on the cover. I'm going to go with you and say it's a bootleg unless someone can dig up some other info.john christopher wrote: Len , are you sure it's an official press?? pretty common here in Europe on records fair, I've only seen it on bootlegger's store.

Oh my god!!
$21.73?!?! wow- that is a huge difference. thank you-- I could spend the rest of the money getting it framed and still having some left over from what I would have paid at that store
I am just still stuck with this whole numbers thing. as len pointed out on the back it clearly states 300 were made-- this one said 100-- thats why I am wondering if its a completely different release?
