Now with the shops being closed it's out with the Sinterklaas stuff and in with the Christmas stuff so Monday when they open again it's like Sinterklaas never happened.

Sinterklaasfeest is nice when you have little kids. Like Sandra, she has a 5 year old little daughter. For the little kids it's still fun.

For the bigger kids it's I am so gonna be so pissed at my parents if I don't get a x-box.
Yes also the Dutch Sinterklaas feest is very pumped up in shops. The first stuff for it lays in the stores in September and it gets earlier every year.

Maybe I'm being too simplistic but does Sinterklaasfest mean Santa Claus Festival? Does Holland have a version of Santa Claus/St Nick that comes down the chimney and that you leave out cookies for and that flies around on a sleigh on Christmas eve?

What kind of traditions do you have there? Christmas trees I assume.....

This could be in the Dutch/USA connection. We brought our Sinterklaas to New Amsterdam/New York and that developed in to the the American version of Santa Claus over time.

Yes we have adopted the American version of Santa Claus in return.

Especially in the last years it has become massive.

So Dutch kids are completely going crazy in the December month.
First Sinterklaas and then Santa Claus.

As for Christmas traditions. We do have ofcourse Christmas eve and Christmas lasts two days here.
I don't think the traditions are very different with Christmas then in the US.
It is mostly spend with family. Or parties all over the countrys or going out to dinner to restaurants.

As for religion. The religion part is very very low in Holland. It's more the older generation that will go to the church with Christmas eve for a night event there.

Right...I just saw some old engravings of Dutch in the new world celebrating.....I'm designing a belt that includes portraits of Santa Claus/St Nick with all his various looks over the centuries.

Sure. I just completed a belt design called "Snowmen Gone Wild"...a whimsical design with snowmen acting up, throwing snowballs at people, dressing up as Elvis...there is even a Moe Larry Curly trio of snowmen.

Nope, standard fare here: Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, etc. Plenty of wine. But most importantly for this year: Live in Vancouver playing in the background.

We are still a little far from the end of 2010 but so far this has been a difficult year for most if not all of us. We have to keep on struggling restarting and moving forward every time.
