NEW release--"BLACK BEAUTY" teaser!

LOVE was another great band from the 60's and of course VERY Doors related.
I think it would be great to have this special topic about the band who was such a big example for The Doors.

Do you think this "live" version of Black Beauty" is remixed with vocal overdubs?

NEW release--"BLACK BEAUTY" teaser!

Post by jamestkirk »

From J9 at Torb's...what a strong live performance! I guess we'll have to wait to see where it is from....

Diane Lee has just circulated on Facebook, a link to a 1970 Love performance of Product Of the Times. It sounds a lot more interesting than the one we're already familiar with on Studio/Live. I'm uncertain though as to which of the 1970 lineups is featured - perhaps it's Lee/Fayad/Tarwater/Poncher:

I've often wondered why Arthur did not include this song on Vindicator....it was obviously one of the stronger songs he had in his armoury after False Start.

mmm, I have a feeling that they've mixed Arthur's studio vocals onto a live version. It just doesn't sound like this is live...

What do you think, Scott?

It is an awfully strong soundboard...usually Arthur is not so STRONG and this would be one of the best sounding live vocal performances of that song if it really were all LIVE. I think you might be right...I wonder if it is an overdub if it woud be credited as such in the liner notes...too honest? Hopefully all of the extras will be well documented.

I am looking forward to the vinyl pressing!! A first press, in effect, and in FACT (since it never WAS officially released back in the day!!). How about you, Ed?

I could ask Diane Lee about it, but I don't want to come over as a wiseguy!

Yes, look forward to the release, it sounds promising!

Hmm...maybe it would not be a good question to ask. Dianne has been so good about getting this to us...it's like looking a gift horse in the mouth. Don't want to seem ungrateful.

Yeah...Dukie and J9 agree! Dukie as you know, is a Love fan from way back. He has sent me some great photos over the years-ones he took of Arthur, Baby Lem, and many with him in the pix with them.

It sounds like the vocal and instrumentation were both recorded in the studio. Is that possible?

Well..we have seen many tracks with the description...."live in the studio"...which is always great to hear over "each part was recorded separately and mixed"... in order to sound...good.

Sounds to me like the vocals are almost certainly recorded in a studio, as they're way too clean - possibly not from the same era either. If I had to guess, the instruments are probably from a demo/rehearsal type thing. If it is a full-on studio recording, then the engineer should be shot because even if the instrumental track is generated, the drums are not well mic'd at all.

I think I hear remnants of a scratch/leftover vocal also, but I could be fooling myself.
