Reviving this old thread based on your shot at one of my favorite rock bands, Guns N' Roses. Your not a fan. That's cool. However, love them or hate them, there can be no doubt that they belong in the club. They, like The Beatles, are 1st round inductees, and it is well deserved. There were some rumors that the original line up would perform together at the ceremony, but according to original bassist Duff McKagan and Slash, one of the greatest guitarists of all time, it's probably not going to happen. However, they will all be attending the ceremony and as is customary, there will probably be a improvised jam involving the various nominees, so it's always possible. So in the interest of sharing some amazing rock music with my fellow Doors fans, I present November Rain by 1st round Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, Guns N' Roses. It's an epic masterpiece. Guitar World ranked Slash's solo in November Rain at #6 in their 100 Greatest Guitar Solos.

That is a good tune...it's just so many iconic 60's bands have been overlooked I can't see straight sometimes...

Not in the Hall...

LoVE would be a prime example, or Moody Blues, Rush, The Zombies (seriously?!! Why for god's sakes not!!!)....so yeah, I get a little steamed when Gun's N' Roses get in so easily!!

Politics as usual...so I really don't take it seriously.

Oh yeah...DAMN!! Sorry....no Moody's in the Hall?... and I just get really pissed!

Same here. I just can't believe Moody Blues aren't in the Hall of Fame. What are they waiting for? :-o
I think Moody Blues (if nominated) should be first to enter the Hall, then LoVE (also weird they're not inducted), then Small Faces, Joan Jett and Donovan.

Although I'm not a fan of their music, I can understand most of those artists deserving to be in the Hall of Fame, but Small Faces? I've never even heard of them. I mean it's the Hall of Fame. What is the criteria for getting in? If you induct Small Faces who most people haven't heard of, you may as well induct any artist who has ever released a record. I don't know what their system is for choosing which artists are inducted, but in terms of success, Guns N' Roses blows all of those artists out of the water.

You may nor realize it, Encuentro...
but you KNOW Small Faces (early 70's Rod Stewart joined them as The FACES)!! I will give you a gentle but informative class on the Small Faces importance to rock history.

The fact that you don't know them is a fault of the music industry today, just as LoVE is forgotten for the most part. Play this track and read on...

Ronnie Lane, Steve Mariott (later to form Humble Pie), Ron Wood (Stones ring a bell?)...Rod Stewart.

THE SMALL FACES were an English rock and roll band from East London, heavily influenced by American rhythm and blues.[1] The group was founded in 1965 by members Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane, Kenney Jones, and Jimmy Winston, although by 1966 Winston was replaced by Ian McLagan as the band's keyboardist.[1]

The band is remembered as one of the most acclaimed and influential mod groups of the 1960s.[2][3] With memorable hit songs such as "Itchycoo Park", "Lazy Sunday", "All or Nothing", "Tin Soldier", and their concept album Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake, they later evolved into one of the UK's most successful psychedelic acts before disbanding in 1969.[4] After the Small Faces disbanded, three of the members were joined by Ronnie Wood as guitarist, and Rod Stewart as their lead vocalist, both from The Jeff Beck Group, and the new line-up was renamed Faces.[5][6] A revived version of the original Small Faces existed from 1975 to 1978.[7]

Small Faces are also acknowledged as being one of the biggest original influences on the Britpop movement of the 1990s.

Despite the fact the band were together just four years in their original incarnation, the Small Faces' music output from the mid to late sixties remains among the most acclaimed British mod and psychedelic music of that era. -wiki

Faces & Small Faces should both be inducted separately just as Buffalo Springfield and CSN&Y were!!

FACES...Stewart never allowed them to be billed as Rod Stewart & Faces--it was always Faces on tour-- even though Rod had a simultaneous & successful solo career.

Stay With Me (though you may not know it...even on radio it was just Faces...not Rod Stewart doing "Stay With Me")

SMALL FACES

THE SMALL FACES remain one of Britain's most treasured and influential bands. Worshipped by legions of fans who weren't even born when they tore up the '60s in a riot of Carnaby Street clobber and drug-savvy impudence, the four London mods came to define Swinging London and, almost incidentally, left behind a string of timeless pop records and a template that scores of bands have imitated, but never bettered.
As their four studio albums finally receive the deluxe reissue treatment, Shindig! delves deep into the second half of The Small Faces' career, with the assistance of KENNEY JONES, PP ARNOLD and BILLY NICHOLLS.
First, DARAGH O'HALLORAN chronicles the move from the austerity of Decca Records to creative freedom at Immediate. Then CARL TWEED goes behind the scenes for the making of the band's 1968 opus Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. Prepare yourselves for 14 pages in the company of The Darlings Of Whapping Wharf Launderette...

"Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood look forward to Faces reunion at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions

Published: Friday, March 30, 2012, 1:50 PM Updated: Friday, March 30, 2012, 4:23 PM

By John Soeder, The Plain Dealer The Plain Dealer

Count on at least one historic reunion at this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The surviving members of the Faces will perform Saturday, April 14, during the sold-out event at Cleveland's Public Auditorium.

It will be the first time that all of them have played together in nearly 20 years. Singer Rod Stewart was joined onstage by guitarist Ronnie Wood, keyboard player Ian "Mac" McLagan and drummer Kenney Jones at the 1993 Brit Awards in London, where the Faces roses from the ashes of the Small Faces in the 1970s.

"I'll be glad when we get past the first rehearsal, because it's always a bit nerve-wracking," Stewart, 67, said by phone today from his Los Angeles home.

"I'll be good after the first rehearsal," he said. "Blow off the cobwebs."

Their Rock Hall set will include "Stay with Me" and "Ooh La La," according to Stewart.

Faces bass player Ronnie Lane died in 1997, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.

"It'll be wonderful for us all to get back together with Rod as the center man," Wood, 64, said in a separate interview from London.

"Everybody is really looking forward to seeing each other. . . . We'll have to make some adjustments. We're not as young as we used to be. We're going to have to change the odd key of a song, but there's no harm in that."

The Faces will be inducted alongside the Small Faces, the 1960s group (of "Itchycoo Park" fame) that included Jones, Lane, McLagan and the late singer-guitarist Steve Marriott.

The Faces plan to slip a Small Faces song -- probably "What'cha Gonna Do About It" -- into their Rock Hall performance.

With Stewart and Wood in the fold, the Faces became a popular draw on the road in the United States. They scored a Top 20 hit with "Stay with Me" in 1972. Three years later, the Faces disbanded.

This will be the second Rock Hall induction for Stewart, previously enshrined as a solo artist, as well as for Wood, already in the hall as a member of the Rolling Stones.

"There aren't many of us who've done it a second time, are there?" Stewart said.

Actually, Eric Clapton has been inducted three times (solo and for his stints with the Yardbirds and Cream).

"Bastard!" Stewart quipped, laughing.

The Faces reunion here could be a springboard for more performances in the future.

"It could be just the one night, and we all punch each other up afterwards," Stewart said. "Or it could go on forever. Well, it wont go on forever. But let's see how it goes."

"We all would love to do a bit more," Wood said. "With everybody's other commitments, we just take one gig at a time. We'll just see how it goes with that one. Maybe it will spur us to do more gigs."

Asked if he had any advice for fellow Rock Hall honorees Guns N' Roses, whose members appear unprepared to put aside their differences for an induction performance, Stewart replied:

"I don't know what the internal problems are. I don't know whether there are any drug problems, or whether they've all grown up a little bit now. I don't know. I think what you've got to remember is, just do it for the public, once. That's the word of advice I would give."

Wood also hopes that GN'R can pull their act together for the ceremony.

"I would say just swallow your pride and play a few songs for the people who put you there," he said.

"Then you can start your personal gripes, you know? Try and do a bit for the people, because they all love Guns N' Roses. Doesn't matter if you have little squabbles amongst yourselves. Play your gig."

Wood added that he'd love to jam with his pals GN'R guitarist Slash and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea at the festivities.

The Faces and the Small Faces will be inducted by Stevie Van Zandt of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band. A 21/2-hour edited version of the ceremony is set to air on HBO at 9 p.m. Saturday, May 5."

Axl Rose has announced that he will not accept his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

"Axl Rose Declines Rock Hall Induction: Singer Says Guns N' Roses Reunion Will Not Happen
By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY 04/11/12 10:58 PM ET

Axl Rose has declined his induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. NEW YORK — The acrimony that helped dissolve Guns N' Roses nearly 20 years ago still lingers.

Axl Rose announced Wednesday that he won't be showing up to see the band inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and declined the honor for himself.

In a letter to the hall, band fans and "To Whom It May Concern," Rose listed several reasons for not attending Saturday's ceremony in Cleveland, including a feeling that the hall does not respect him.

In declining his own induction, he added: "I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf."

The hall said in a statement that it still plans to induct Rose with the rest of the group. "We are sorry he will not be able to accept his induction in person," it said.

According to the rock hall only the Sex Pistols have declined induction before.

Although Rose now fronts a reconstituted version of Guns N' Roses that does not include former members Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan or Steven Adler, some held out hope that the band might reunite at the hall.

Even Slash seemed to leave an opening for the possibility.

"I have no idea what's going to happen on that day," he said in an interview with The Associated Press last month. "It's more like going into it with blinders on and just see what happens."

But Rose apparently was miffed by such talk.

"There's a seemingly endless amount of revisionism and fantasies out there for the sake of self-promotion and business opportunities masking the actual realities," he wrote.

He added: "So let sleeping dogs lie or lying dogs sleep or whatever. Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn't owe you your own personal happy ending especially at another's, or in this case several others', expense."

A rep for Slash said he would still attend Saturday but had no further comment. Green Day is scheduled to induct the group.

Rose admitted that when it was first announced that the band would be inducted, he had mixed feelings. But "I was honored, excited and hoped that somehow this would be a good thing. Of course, if Guns N' Roses were to be inducted it'd be somewhat of a complicated or awkward situation."

Rose's announcement cast a cloud over the band's induction but in some ways was fitting, given the dysfunction that marked the group as it became one of the world's most popular acts in the 1980s and 1990s. Its hits included "Welcome to the Jungle," "Sweet Child O' Mine" and "November Rain."

Besides Guns N' Roses, the inductees will include the Beastie Boys, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the late singer/songwriter Laura Nyro, Donovan, and The Small Faces/The Faces, which included Rod Stewart and Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood."

"Guns N' Roses reunites minus Axl Rose for Hall of Fame induction
April 15, 2012 | 8:55 am

Axl Rose kept his promise to boycott Saturday’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland, but his former bandmates decided the Guns N’ Roses show must go on without him, gratefully accepting their statuettes before playing several vintage GNR songs with singer Myles Kennedy handling the vocals.

Kennedy, the singer in guitarist Slash’s current solo project and lead vocalist for Alter Bridge, stepped in to round out the lineup that also included bassist Duff McKagan, drummers Steven Adler and Matt Sorum, and guitarist Gilby Clarke in three songs from GNR’s 1987 debut album “Appetite for Destruction.”

Rose’s name drew choruses of boos and catcalls from the audience of about 7,400 at Cleveland’s Public Auditorium, where the ceremony took place. But Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong, who delivered the GNR introduction speech, shot back: “Shut up. He was the greatest frontman to ever step in front of a microphone.” He paused, then added: "But he is ... crazy. And I can vouch for that."

McKagan took a diplomatic tack to diffuse fans’ disappointment, saying, “I don’t think it matters who’s up here tonight, because this is about the songs that band created.” They offered up “Mr. Brownstone,” “Sweet Child O’ Mine” and “Paradise City” from “Appetite,” which Armstrong lauded as “the greatest debut album in rock 'n' roll history.”

It was, however, comedian Chris Rock, during his introductory speech for GNR’s fellow L.A. inductees, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who provided what perhaps was the most salient point of the evening regarding Rose.

“A lot of people are disappointed that Axl Rose isn’t here,” said Rock as the ceremony stretched toward the 1 a.m. mark for the Chili Peppers’ performance. “But let’s face it, even if was going to be here, he still wouldn’t be here yet.”

The Chili Peppers closed the show with an all-star jam including Slash, Faces (and former Rolling Stones) guitarist Ron Wood, Armstrong and the funk pioneer hailed by both bassist Flea and singer Anthony Kiedis during their acceptance remarks, George Clinton.

Flea, nearly in tears at the end of their extended-jam version of Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground,” told the crowd, “I love the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.”

A full report on the evening, which also welcomed new Hall of Fame members the Beastie Boys, Donovan, the Small Faces and Faces, and Laura Nyro, will appear in Monday’s Calendar section."
