Two Wild Child Shows Tonight In San Diego

Post by MysticHeatedWine »

Just arrived in San Diego this afternoon since the company I work for has me working here next week and, lo and behold, Wild Child is playing at a venue 3 minutes from the hotel I'm staying at. Looking forward to it. I've never seen them play since they rarely come to New York. Anyway, if anyone here lives in or near San Diego they're playing 2 shows tonight, at 7:30 and at 10:00, at a place called Anthology at 1337 India Avenue. Is anyone here planning on going ? If so let me know and maybe we can meet up.

Show was great, a vibrant and enthusiastic performance. I'm glad I finally got to see them. Much better than the Soft Parade show I saw a few months ago. SP just seemed to be going through the motions, not as good as they used to be, but Brock and COMPANY put on a great show including a killer encore of "The End." The best part was when a woman (she had to be at least in her 70's) sung "Gloria" with Dave. Good stuff. A great night. :D

Just curious. Does Dave Brock behave the same way with Ray and Robby as he does with Wild Child? Does he impersonate Jim with Ray and Robby or does he tone it down?

I felt Dave was very effective the other night because he didn't try to be Jim. He was relaxed and friendly but very focused, emphasizing the lyrics. He seemed to have a good rapport with his band and seemed more at ease than with Ray and Robby. A lot of people were up and dancing around the stage (bear in mind it was a small club) and everyone seemed to have a great time.

Cool. I'm glad you enjoyed it. So, overall, how does Wild Child compare to Ray and Robby musically? Which would you say you enjoyed more? I know that sounds like a strange question being that it's the real Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger.

Well, with all due respect, I don't think anything compares to Ray and Robby ( I've seen them 8 times and am going again in September in Huntington ) and I can watch the 2 geniuses solo off each other all night. What I CAN compare is Wild Child and the Soft Parade. I saw SP a number of times in New York and used to like them a lot but they seem a pale comparison now. Brock is a much better singer. Wild Child's drummer is also superior, in my view. As far as guitar, it's close but I think Bilotti from SP gets the edge. The only area I'll give SP a clear edge is on keyboards. I've always respected Mike Abel's ability. I remember once he told me after a show how it was hard to learn L.A. Woman since it's like 14 pages long.
